Resolution No. 4107134 RESOLUTION NO. 4107 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS COMMENDING SENATOR CECIL GREEN UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE STATE LEGISLATURE. WHEREAS, Senator Cecil Green, representing the 33rd State Senatorial District, which encompasses a large portion of the Los Angeles and Orange Counties, including the City of Cypress, was first elected in 1987 at a special State election, and reelected to a full four -year term in November 1988; and WHEREAS, Senator Green served as Chairman of the Senate Public Employment and Retirement Committee and the Subcommittee on Earthquake Insurance; and WHEREAS, Senator Green has also served as a member of the Agriculture and Water Resources Committee; Education Committee; Insurance, Claims and Corporations Committee; Local Government Committee; and the Transportation Committee; and WHEREAS, during his tenure, Senator Green has focused on several key issues, such as the re- implementation of the worker safety program (Cal - OSHA), earthquake relief, insurance reform, freeway shootings, education, gang violence and drug abuse; and WHEREAS, Senator Green has authored and co- authored significant legislation to provide local funding for schools, cities, law enforcement and State trial courts; and WHEREAS, Senator Green's extensive governmental and community involvement includes: Appointment to the Norwalk Planning Commission in 1971; Elected to the Norwalk City Council for four consecutive terms; Served as Mayor of Norwalk in 1976 -77, 1981 -82, and 1984 -85; Served as President of the California Contract Cities Association; Founder and past President of the Southern California Insurance Authority; Past Vice - Chairman and member of the Los Angeles County Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission; Advisor to the State of California Transportation Committee; and Member of the District Attorney's Advisory Council; and WHEREAS, Senator Green will be retiring from the State Legislature in December 1992, after more than 18 years of public service. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Cypress does hereby commend SENATOR CECIL GREEN for his dedication and service to the people of California, and extends sincere Best Wishes on his retirement from the State Legislature and for the coming years.
