A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS AMENDING RESOLUTION
NO. 3376, ARTICLE VIII, SECTION 1. OF THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN
THE CITY OF CYPRESS AND THE CYPRESS PUBLIC SAFETY EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION.
WHEREAS, the City of Cypress, hereinafter referred to as "City," and the
Cypress Public Safety Employees' Association, hereinafter referred to as
"Association," have met and conferred in accordance with the requirements of
the Meyers- Milias -Brown Act; and,
WHEREAS, the City and the Association have reached agreement on amending
Article VIII, Section 1. of the Memorandum of Understanding between the City
and the Association concerning the probationary period requirement for
civilian employees.

ARTICLE VIII - PROBATIONARY PERIODS
Section 1. Permanent Appointments Following Probationary Period.
A. The original appointment of every employee, other than
those whose appointment is exempt, shall be tentative
and subject to a probationary period of twelve (12)
months of service, except police officers who shall
be required to serve a probationary period of eighteen
(18) months of service.
B. Those original and promotional employees, other than
those whose appointment is exempt; who are serving a
probationary period on council meeting date of adoption,
shall serve a probationary period of six (6) months,
except police officers who shall serve an eighteen (18)
eighteen months probationary period.
C. Notwithstanding paragraph B above, the promotional
appointment of every permanent employee other than those
whose appointment is exempt, shall be tentative and
subject to a probationary period of six (6) months.
D. When unusual circumstances merit the extension of the
probationary period, the department head shall request,
in writing, approval of the City Manager. Said extension
shall not exceed ninety (90) days. The Personnel Officer
shall notify the department head and the probationer
concerned two weeks prior to the termination of any
probationary period.
E. If the service of a probationary employee has been
satisfactory, the department head shall file with the
Personnel Officer a statement, in writing, to such
effect stating that the retention of such employee in
the service is desired. No actions changing an employee's
status from robationary to permanent shall be made or
become effective until approved by the City Manager.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress at a
regular meeting held on the 24th day of July, 1989. `"
