Resolution No. 3624RESOLUTION NO. 3624 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS COMMENDING POLICE CHIEF RONALD E. LOWENBERG FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY. WHEREAS , Ronald E. Lowenberg began his law enforcement career as a Police Officer for the City of Cypress in July 1967 and was promoted to Police Agent in October 1969 and attained the rank of Sergeant in July 1972; and WHEREAS, Ron left the City of Cypress in 1977 to become a. Lieutenant for the Baldwin Park Police Department and in 1979, was appointed Captain for the Tustin Police Department; and WHEREAS, in December 1981, Ron was successful in being selected by City Manager Darrell Essex as Chief of Police for the City of Cypress; and WHEREAS, Ron earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from California State University, Long Beach, and his Associate in Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the Golden West College, as well as being a Command College graduate; and WHEREAS, Ron's many professional and community involvement includes being a member of the California Chiefs of Police Association Board of Directors, the California Peace Officers' Association Executive Board, past Chairman of the California Peace Officers' Association Training Services Committee, President and past Secretary /Treasurer of the Orange County Chiefs and Sheriffs' Association, past President of the Boys and Girls Club of Cypress Board of Directors, and past member of the Casa De Bienvenidos Board of Directors; and WHEREAS, during Ron's tenure as Police Chief, the Police Department initiated the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program, Adopt -a -Cop Program, the Citizen Operational Disaster Emergency Service (C.O.D.E.S.), the Cypress Community Safety Coordinating Council (C.C.S.C.C.) and reactivated the Neighborhood Watch Program; and WHEREAS, on September 15, 1989, Ron resigned as Chief of Police for the City of Cypress to become Police Chief for the City of Huntington Beach; and WHEREAS, on Friday, September 15, 1989, Chief Lowenberg was honored by his many friends and colleagues at a special tribute for serving the City of Cypress for 18 years. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cypress City Council does hereby commend CHIEF RONALD E. LOWENBERG for his many years of dedicated service to the community and extends sincere Best Wishes for continued success in his most illustrious career.
