A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS
COMMENDING THE CYPRESS FEDERAL LITTLE LEAGUE ALL STARS
TEAM ON ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON IN WINNING THE 13 WESTERN
STATES REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND PLAYING IN THE 1990
LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES IN WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
WHEREAS, the CYPRESS FEDERAL LITTLE LEAGUE ALL STARS TEAM is comprised of
the following 11- and -12- year -old players:
BOBBY BRITO DAMON KATZ MATT MIMS MATT SHELTON
RYAN BROWN JAKE KOZIEL PAT MURPHY MARK SLEVCOVE
KERRY CORDERO STEVE MARTIN ERIC SAYAAN EDDIE ZAMORA
JOE KATCHKA DARIUS McMILLAN
WHEREAS, the CYPRESS ALL STARS TEAM was managed by GARY SHELTON and coached
by RON MacDONALD and his assistant coaches, BRUCE BROWN, CHARLIE CORDERO, and
JERRY KATZ; and
WHEREAS, the CYPRESS ALL STARS TEAM gained an impressive winning record in
the District 29 Competition and advanced to the Western States Regional
Competition where they won the championship with four consecutive victories over
Arizona, Utah, Hawaii, and Idaho; and
WHEREAS, as the Western States Regional Little League Champions, the
CYPRESS ALL STARS earned a trip to the Little League World Series in
Williamsport, Pennsylvania - the first Cypress team and the third Orange County
squad to ever advance to the World Series; and
WHEREAS, in their first appearance at the World Series, the mighty CYPRESS
ALL STARS blanked out Columbia, Michigan, the United States Central Region
representative, with a 9 -0 victory, marking the Team's 17 consecutive win; and
WHEREAS, this victory advanced the CYPRESS ALL STARS to compete for the
United States National Championship against Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, the
United States Eastern Region representative; and
WHEREAS, millions of television viewers throughout the world watched the
CYPRESS ALL STARS play one of the most thrilling and tremendous games ever
played in the Little League World Series before bowing to the Pennsylvania team
by a score of 5 -4; and
WHEREAS, the Cypress City Council and all the citizens of Cypress, Orange
County, and the State of California are extremely proud of the CYPRESS FEDERAL
LITTLE LEAGUE ALL STARS' outstanding performance and effort which have brought
distinction and national and international recognition to them and the City of
Cypress.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Cypress
does hereby honor and commend, with great pride, all the members of the CYPRESS
FEDERAL LITTLE LEAGUE ALL STARS TEAM, their MANAGER, COACH and ASSISTANT COACHES
on a most successful 1990 season and extends CONGRATULATIONS for their great
achievements in the 1990 Little League playoffs and their participation in the
1990 Little League World Series.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress at a regular
meeting held on the 27th day of August 1990.
