A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CYPRESS AMENDING RESOLUTION NO.
703, RULE XI, SECTIONS 12 AND 21, CONCERNING
THE BASIC COMPENSATION PLAN FOR EMPLOYEES
IN THE MUNICIPAL SERVICE OF THE CITY OF
CYPRESS.
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cypress that Rule XI,
Sections 12 and 21 of Resolution No. 703,entitled "Attendance and Leaves,"
adopted on June 13, 1966, is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Section 12. Sick Leave:" Sick leave with pay shall be granted
by the appointing power at the rate of one work day for each
calendar month of service. Sick leave shall not be considered
a privilege which an employee may use at his discretion, but
shall be used only in case of necessity and actual sickness or
disability. Unused sick leave shall be accumulated at the rate
of twelve (12) days per year without limitation.
Employees may, where necessary, use sick leave to arrange for
the care and /or treatment of immediate family members. The
use of sick leave for this purpose shall be limited to three
(3) days per year.
In order to receive compensation while absent on sick leave,
the employee shall notify his immediate superior or the Personnel
Officer prior to, or within four hours after the time set for
beginning his daily duties, or as may be specified by the head
of his department. When absence is for more than one work day,
the employee may be required to file a physician's certificate
or a personal affidavit with the Personnel Officer, stating the
cause of the absence.
"Section 21. Bereavement Leave:" Whenever an employee who is
eligible to receive sick leave is compelled to be absent from duty
by reason of the death or critical illness where death appears
imminent of Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Wife, Husband, Child,
grandmother or grandfather, mother -in -law or father -in -law, such
employee shall, upon approval of his Department Head, be entitled
to charge such absence to his accumulated sick leave to a maximum
of three (3) working days in a calendar year, if the deceased
relative lived within the southern California area, or five (5)
working days in a calendar year, if the deceased relative lived
outside of the southern California area.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress, at a
regular meeting held on the 23rd day of June, 1969.
