RESOLUTION NO. 1046
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CYPRESS COMMENDING THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF
ST. IRENAEUS SCHOOL FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN RAISING
FUNDS FOR THE "FLAME OF HOPE" PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the "Flame of Hope" Program was established and is sponsored by the
Joseph P. Kennedy family in honor of the late President Kennedy for the purpose of
helping mentally retarded persons receive training and rehabilitation toward beginning
a new and productive life: and
WHEREAS, this Program includes a fund - raising program through the sale of candles
which are handcrafted by the mentally retarded; and
WHEREAS, the Eighth Grade Class of St. Irenaeus School launched a fund - raising
campaign through the sale of Christmas Candles which resulted in the receipt of
approximately $3,000 for this fund - raising effort; and-
WHEREAS, as a result of this campaign, the Students from St. Irenaeus School
were successful in contributing approximately $1,500 to the "Flame of Hope" Program; and
WHEREAS,in addition, the Eighth Grade Class has determined to utilize the proceeds
which they accrued in this effort toward leaving to the School as a momento from the 1970
Graduating Class of St. Irenaeus School an Educational Film Library; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of their contribution to this most worthwhile Program,
several of the Eighth Grade Students received special recognition in the form of trophies
or PT Boat and Flame of Hope Pins, while all of the members of the class received
Certificates of Merit for their outstanding work and effort in this campaign; and
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Cypress is extremely proud of the efforts
put forth by the Eighth Grade Students in devoting their time and energy toward furthering
the goals of the "Flame of Hope" Program; and
WHEREAS, these efforts have brought favorable recognition not only to St. Irenaeus
School but also to the entire community.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cypress to
commend the Eighth Grade Class of St. Irenaeus School for its fund - raising efforts in
the "Flame of Hope" Program.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress at a regular meeting
held on the 24th day of February, 1970.
