A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS
COMMENDING THE GIRL SCOUTS OF AMERICA ON ITS 75TH
ANNIVERSARY AND PROCLAIMING MARCH 9 - 15, 1987, AND
THE WEEK OF MARCH 12 OF EACH YEAR HEREAFTER, AS "GIRL
SCOUT WEEK" IN THE CITY OF CYPRESS.
WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts of America was formed on March 12, 1912,
by JULIETTE GORDON LOW, a world traveler and skilled artist, who did
not let her deafness deter her belief that girls should acquire skills
and experience early in life to prepare for their roles in society; and
WHEREAS, through JULIETTE LOW'S untiring efforts, the Girl Scouts
of America has become the largest voluntary organization for girls and
young women in the world, with the Girl Scout Council of Orange County
serving nearly 20,000 girls and 9,000 adults; and
WHEREAS, on the occasion of its 75th Anniversary, a Girl Scout
Birthday and International Promise Circle will be held on the grounds
of Barclay College, 5172 Orange Avenue, Cypress, on March 12, 1987; and
WHEREAS, the Cypress City Council desires to designate the week of
March 12 this year and every year hereafter to be "Girl Scout Week" in
the City of Cypress; and
WHEREAS, during Girl Scout Week, Cypress Troop members will
perform additional service to the community in an all- out - effort to
create public awareness to the importance of the Girl Scout Program to
our young citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cypress has also the distinction of having
one of its citizens, ANDREA STEIN, selected as one of the delegates
nationwide to attend the 75th Girl Scout Birthday Ceremony in
Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, the Cypress City Council would also like to give
recognition to SENIOR GIRL SCOUTS HEIDI BARTEL and KYM BURTCH for
attending a recent City Council meeting to advise the Council of the
up- coming 75th Anniversary celebration as part of their challenge for
earning the Gold Award, Girl Scout's highest and most prestigious
award.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cypress City Council takes
great pleasure in commending the GIRL SCOUTS OF AMERICA on its 75TH
ANNIVERSARY and extends sincere CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES for a
most successful Birthday and International Promise Circle event on
March 12, 1987.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the week of MARCH 9 - 15, 1987, and
the week of March 12 of each year hereafter, be designated as "GIRL
SCOUT WEEK" in the City of Cypress.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress at a
regular meeting held on the 23rd day of February 1987.
