Resolution No. 3349RESOLUTION NO. 3349 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS COMMENDING THE CITY OF ORANGE ON ITS l00TH ANNIVERSARY OF INCORPORATION. WHEREAS, in 1871, two Los Angeles Attorneys, Alfred Beck Chapman and Andrew Glassell, founded "Richland" which was renamed "Orange" in 1873, concurrently with the opening of its first post office; and WHEREAS, the City of Orange, an agricultural City foremost in the growing of grapes, oranges, walnuts, apricots, and avocados, was incorporated on April 6, 1888, with a population of approximately 1,500; and WHEREAS, established as a General Law City, Orange has grown in size from 3.8 square miles in 1950 to over 22 square miles and has seen its population increase to nearly 105,000, ranking sixth in size in Orange County; and WHEREAS, the City of Orange has developed into a well - balanced community of industrial, commercial, and residential areas, with beautiful parks and fine school and library systems, and is highly respected by other cities throughout California; and WHEREAS, on April 6, 1988, the City of Orange will officially mark its centennial with a community -wide celebration. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Cypress does hereby commend the CITY OF ORANGE on its 100TH ANNIVERSARY and extends sincere Best Wishes for the future and for a most successful centennial celebration.
