RESOLUTION NO. 2834
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS
COMMENDING THE CYPRESS GAMBLERS SOFTBALL TEAM
1984 JUNIOR OLYMPIC PROGRAM NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
AMATEUR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION
WHEREAS, the 1984 Junior Olympic Program National Champion team, "the Cypress
Gamblers," is comprised of the following individuals:

COACHES: Larry Akau, Dennis Drulias, Denny Robinson, John Sciarrino
WHEREAS, the Cypress Gamblers is a team of local 11- and 12 -year-old girls playing
softball under the auspices of the Tri -Cities Softball League, the majority of which
are from Cypress Girls Softball League; and
WHEREAS, the team won the California State Championship in San Diego, in mid-
July, at the Amateur Softball Association Tournament for the second straight year,
(the fourth straight year a Cypress team has won the State title) and,
WHEREAS, that Championship entitled the Cypress Gamblers to participate in the
1984 Junior Olympic Program ASA National Tournament, held in Las Cruces, New Mexico
on August 8, 9, 10, 11, which involved 70 teams from throughout the country (all having
achieved a state or regional area championship), and
WHEREAS, the team went through the tournament undefeated, winning 7 straight games
in 4 days, and outscoring their competition 83 runs to 9 runs, and
WHEREAS, this is the third year that the ASA has held national competition in the
12 -year-old division, and the third straight year that a Cypress team has won the
national championship (Cypress Tri -City Gordon's 1982 and Cypress Tri -City Gamblers
1983), and
WHEREAS, during the National Tournament, the "Cypress Gamblers" played teams from
Louisiana, Washington, Tennessee, Illinois, Oklahoma and Texas, and as ambassadors
of the City of Cypress, have brought distinction to our community through their out-
standing achievement in the sport of softball, and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Cypress are proud of and have enjoyed the endeavors of
this fine team which has exhibited the talents, discipline, and integrity it takes
to achieve in the sport of softball, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council, of the City of Cypress
hereby commends the "Cypress Gamblers Softball Team" for its fine performance in 1984,
and for the honor it has brought to the City of Cypress.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress at a regular meeting
held on the 27th day of August 1984.
