Resolution No. 2835Boa RESOLUTION NO. 2835 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS COMMENDING THE CYPRESS PANTHERS INLAND CITIES SOFTBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN THE FIELD OF SOFTBALL. WHEREAS, the Cypress Panthers, the 1984 Amateur Softball Association 15 and under champions, is comprised of these outstanding individuals: PLAYER NAME Suzie Berdis Joanne Brodeur Sandy Buckner Christina Clammer Lisa Fernandez Kelly Flaczinski Ruby Flores Terina Franklin Cindy Gossmer PLAYER NAME Louise Grimm Missi Gyde Yvette Hernandez Heather Illsley Kelly Inouye Nicky Luce Deanna Mays Marian Mendoza Julie Schoales Sponsor - Dee and Becky Luce Manager - Larry Mays Coaches: Chuck Clammer, Fred Risley, Ron Flaczinski WHEREAS, the Cypress Panthers is a team of local 13- to 15 -year old girls playing softball under the auspices of the Cypress Inland City Travel Softball League, the majority of which are from Cypress Girls Softball League; and WHEREAS, the Panthers enjoyed a successful 1984 season through its winning the Inter - Community Softball League Championship, as well as 6 weekend tournaments; and WHEREAS, in late June the Panthers traveled to Denver, Colorado, and went undefeated winning 8 consecutive games, playing the top teams from the southern and mid -western states in route to capturing the Firecracker Invitational Championship; and WHEREAS, as the 1983 A.S.A. defending National Champions, the Cypress Panthers were entitled to participate in the 1984 15 -years -and -under Girls Fastpitch A.S.A. National Championship Tournament, held in Salt Lake City, Utah, August 8, 9, 10, 11, involving 36 teams from throughout the country; and WHEREAS, the Cypress Panthers went through the tournament undefeated, winning 7 straight games in four days, thus becoming the first team in the eleven -year history of the A.S.A. "15 -year -old -and -under" National Competition to repeat as champions; and WHEREAS, during the National Tournament, the Cypress Panthers played teams from Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Connecticut, and Northern California, and as ambassadors of the City of Cypress, have brought distinction to our community through their outstanding achievement in the sport of softball; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Cypress are proud of and have enjoyed the endeavors of this fine team which has exhibited the talents, discipline, and integrity it takes to achieve in the sport of softball; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council, of the City of Cypress hereby commends the "Cypress Panthers Softball Team" for its fine performance in 1984, and for the honor it has brought to the City of Cypress.
