RESOLUTION NO. 2893
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS
SETTING FORTH THE LOCAL CONDITIONS ANI) THE PUBLIC SAFETY
FACTORS UPON WHICH A DETERMINATION HAS BEEN MADE BY THE
CITY COUNCIL. THAT CERTAIN MODIFICATIONS TO THE 1984 EDITION
OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE ARE REASONABLY REQUIRED BY
LOCAL CONDITIONS AND PUBLIC SAFETY FACTORS WITHIN THE
CITY OF CYPRESS.
THE CITY COUNCIL. OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, Health and Safety Code Section 17922 requires the City of Cypress to
adopt the most current edition of the National Electrical Code; and
WHEREAS, Health and Safety Code Section 17958.5 provides for the City Council
to make changes or modifications in the most current edition of the National Electrical
Code as may be reasonably necessary because of certain local conditions; and
Building Official of the City of Cypress has determined and
based upon certain local conditions within the City of Cypress,
to the 1984 edition of the National Electrical Code contained in
are reasonably required to be adopted by the City of Cypress;
WHEREAS, the

WHEREAS, Health and Safety Code Section 17958.7 requires the City Council to
make express findings of the necessity for modifications in the most current edition
of the National Electrical Code.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cypress that
the following amendments and modifications to the 1984 edition of the National
Electrical Code contained in Ordinance No. are hereby found to be reasonably
necessary due to considerations of certain local conditions:
Section 90-4. Enforcement
Reasonable rights of entry are provided for the Building Official to
conduct inspections.
Section 110-5. Conductors
Aluminum wiring is limited to sizes 46 AWG and larger.
Section 210-1. Branch Circuits
Except in agriculture areas, underground wiring between buildings on the
same premises is required.
Raceways for future wiring is required if space for future circuit breakers
is provided.
Section 210-52(f) Dwelling Unit Receptacle Outlets
Receptacles are required in carports.
Section 210-70. Lighting Outlets Required
Provisions are made for required lighting outlets in certain portions of
dwelling units.
Section 215-10. Raceways
Raceways are required to enclose feeder conductors.
Section 220-3. Branch Circuits Required
Receptacles are prohibited from being installed on lighting branch circuits.
Section 230-43. Conduit
Exposed service entrance conduit is required to be of rigid metal material.
Conductors shall be enclosed in such conduit up to the service panel enclosure.
Section 250-81(c). Concrete - Encased Electrode
Concrete -encased grounding electrodes shall be made of copper material only.
Section 300-13(b). Device Removal
Continuity of all conductors, in all circuits, shall be independent of device
connections.

Section 336. Nonmetallic -Sheathed Cable
Use of nonmetallic -sheathed cable is prohibited in exposed areas and may be
used when concealed, only in certain residential dwellings.
Section 350-2. Flexible Metal Conduit
Flexible metal conduit is prohibited from installation in areas where it may
be subjected to physical damage.
Section 422-5. Branch Circuit Sizing
Separate branch circuits are required for certain fixed appliances.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution, together with a copy of
Ordinance No. adopting the 1984 edition of National Electrical Code, as amended,
be filed with the State Department of Housing and Community Development.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress at a regular meeting
held on the 11th day of March 1985.
