Resolution No. 2562bay RESOLUTION NO.2562 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS COMMENDING 111E TRI -CITY GORDON'S FOR AN OUTSTANDING 1982 SOFTBALL SEASON WHEREAS, the team, called "Tri -City Gordon's," representing the City of Cypress, competed in the "A" Open Women's Fast Pitch Amateur Softball Association 1982 Summer Season with the following personnel: and PLAYERS: Lisa Barbosa Tena Byers Terri Craft Rene Cross Debbie Flowers Diane Francis Laurie Holler Kelly Mullens Pippy Hollingsworth Teri Richardson Lisa Limp Sandy Rivera Yvette Lopez Barbie Schorr Mary Manarino Diana Vigil Donna McElrea COACHES: Pete Manarino and Ed Espinola MANAGER: Gordon Mullens WHEREAS, the 1982 Tri -City Gordon's compiled a record of 33 wins and 16 losses for the summer session; and WHEREAS, this team was invited to participate in the "A" Open Southern California State Regional Women's Past Pitch Tournament, held July 2-5, 1982, at Golden West College; and WHEREAS, the "A" Open Southern California State Regional Tournament had 10 teams representing the cities of Santa Maria, Huntington Beach, Whittier, Costa Mesa, Westminster, Valencia, San Fernando Valley, West Covina, Garden Grove and Cypress; and WHEREAS, Cypress' Tri -City Gordon's won 6 straight games without a loss beating in order, the following teams: La Habra, San Diego, West Covina, San Fernando Valley, Whittier and Costa Mesa; thus, becoming Southern California Region 14 "A" Open Women's Fast Pitch Champions; and WHEREAS, Tri -City Gordon's from Cypress represented Southern California at the Amateur Softball Association's National Women's "A" Open Fast Pitch Championship Tournament in Grand .Junction, Colorado, August 25 through August 29; and WHEREAS, Tri -City Gordon's, participating with 20 other teams from all over the Continental United States, posted a 4 win/2 loss tournament record, finishing fourth overall; and WHEREAS, Tri -City Gordon's of Cypress had the following five players named to the ALL-AMERICAN TEAMS: FIRST TEAM - Pippy Hollingsworth and Mary Manarino; SECOND TEAM - Yvette Lopez, Laurie Holler, Donna McElrea; thus, having more players selected to the All-American Teams than any other team in the National Championships. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Cypress hereby commends the Tri -City Gordon's for achieving excellence in the field of women's fast pitch softball, and for the distinction the team has brought to the City of Cypress.
