Resolution No. 2605RESOLUTION NO. 2605 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS REQUESTING THE ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO PROVIDE FUNDS FOR A KATELLA AVENUE CORRIDOR STUDY IN FISCAL YEAR 1983/84. WHEREAS, Katelia Avenue is a major arterial highway extending from the Newport Freeway in eastern Orange County across the Los Angeles/ Orange County boundary where it becomes Willow Avenue and continues to Route 47 Freeway on the west, and WHEREAS, there is substantial industrial/commercial development close to or adjacent to Katelia Avenue either completed, under construction, or in planning which will create approximately 40,000 new jobs, and WHEREAS, there are substantial traffic generators adjacent to or close to Katelia Avenue such as, Angels Stadium, Anaheim Convention Center, Disneyland, Los Alamitos Race Track, California State University Long Beach, El Dorado Regional Park, and other public and private facilities, and WHEREAS, the three corridor studies presently being conducted by the Orange County Transportation Commission do not adequately address the East/West Katella Avenue Corridor, and WHEREAS, the study presently being conducted by the Orange County EMA is a TSM study designed to improve the traffic flow on a short range basis, and WHEREAS, Katelia Avenue is the only east/west arterial route that extends completely across Orange County and through Los Angeles County between the Garden Grove Freeway and Lincoln Avenue, and WHEREAS, a long range transportation plan is needed for the Katella Avenue Corridor to provide alternative solutions for circulation problems within the corridor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Cypress does hereby request the Orange County Transportation Commission in the 1983/84 budget to provide funds for and conduct a Katella Avenue Corridor Study extending from the Newport Freeway in the eastern part of Orange County to the western boundary with Los Angeles County which will include coordina- tion with Los Angeles County to provide solutions for future circulation needs on a long range basis.
