Resolution No. 2689310 RESOLUTION NO. 2689 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS COMMENDING THE GAMBLERS SOFTBALL TEAM 1983'CALIFORNIA STATE AND NATIONAL CHAMPIONS AMATEUR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION WHEREAS, the 1983 California State and National Champion team, "the Gamblers," is comprised of the following individuals: PLAYERS: Heather Compton Collene Conahan Lisa Fernandez Cindy Kanatzar Missy Gyde Pam Haas Jennifer Harms MANAGER: Jim Schoales Deanna Hoffman Kerri Huston Gina Martillo Brenda Murphy Julie Schoales Kris Vucurevic COACHES: Don Hoffman, Joe Harms, Larry Kanatzar WHEREAS, the Gamblers is a team of local 11- and 12 -year-old girls playing softball under the auspices of the Tri -Cities Softball League; the majority of which are from Cypress Girls Softball League; and WHEREAS, the team won the California State Championship in Rialto, in mid- July, at the Amateur Softball Association Tournament by going undefeated during the double elimination tournament outscoring the opponent 28 runs to 1, and WHEREAS, that State Championship entitled the Gamblers to participate in the 1983 ASA National Tournament, held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on August 11, 12, 13, 14, which involved 58 teams from throughout the country (all having achieved a state or metropolitan area championship), and WHEREAS, the team went through the tournament undefeated, winning 7 straight games in 4 days, and outscoring their competition 60 runs to 2 runs, and WHEREAS, this is only the second year that the ASA has held national compe- tition in the 12 -year-old division, and the second straight year that a Cypress team has won the national championship (4 team members have realized both champ- ionships having played on the Tri -Cities' "Gordon's" team as 11 -year-olds last year), and WHEREAS, during the National Tournament, the "Gamblers" played teams from Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, and Tennessee, and, as ambassadors of the City of Cypress, have brought distinction to our community through their outstanding achievement in the sport of softball, and WHEREAS, the citizens of Cypress are proud of and have enjoyed the endeavors of this fine team which has exhibited the talent, discipline, and integrity it takes to achieve this standing of excellence. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council, of the City of Cypres hereby commends the "Gamblers Softball Team" for its fine performance in 1983, and for the honor it has brought to the City of Cypress.
