HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2713353 RESOLUTION NO. 2713 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS COMMENDING R. A. "MOLLY" McGEE FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE ANAHEIM UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES. WHEREAS, R. A. "Molly" McGee was first elected to the Anaheim Union High School District's Board of Trustees in March of 1974 and at the age of 19 she was one of the youngest school board member to be elected in the United States; and WHEREAS, Molly was appointed by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1974 to serve as a member of the Commission for the Reform of Intermediate and Secondary Education; and WHEREAS, Molly was selected by her fellow Board members to serve as Alternate Clerk of the Board for 1974-76; as Clerk of the Board during 1976-79 and as President of the Board in 1980; and WHEREAS, during her tenure as President of the Board, Molly encouraged community involvement regarding the District's organization and was instrumental in the smooth transition of the District's 2-4 Plan; worked to improve student achievement through a renewed emphasis on testing and basic skills; encouraged gtaff development and in-service workshops for District employees; and improved communication lines with feeder elementary school districts; and WHEREAS, as a Board Member, Molly conducted several workshops and seminars throughout the State to improve leadership skills of both school board members and educators; and WHEREAS, Molly has been active in numerous educational and civic organiza- tions which include membership in the California School Board Association's Delegate Assembly, PTA, Altrusa International, and the League of Women Voters and in 1981 was selected as the "Woman of the Year" - Annie Accolade Award by the Anaheim Women's Division, Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, during her ten years as a Member and President of the Anaheim Union High School District, Molly has devoted her time and effort towards the improvement of public education and will be sorely missed by her peers and the District where she has served so diligently. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Cypress does hereby commend R. A. "MOLLY" McGEE for her outstanding service and contributions as a member of the Anaheim Union High School District's Board of Trustees and extends sincere Best Wishes for the future.
