Resolution No. 1254c(F RESOLUTION NO. 1254 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS ADOPTING THE USS COOK. WHEREAS, the USS Cook was named in honor of Lt. Cmdr.. Wilmer Paul Cook, U. 5. Navy, who commanded an attack aircraft squadron in Vietnam before his death in 1967 over North Vietnam; and WHEREAS, the USS Cook left Boston, Massachusetts on February 23, 1972, for a 15,000 mile maiden voyage to Long Beach, California, arriving on April 29, 1972; and WHEREAS, the USS Cook came to the aid of a burning Brazilian freighter while underway for Curacao and made use of the ship's medical facilities by giving aid to injured crewmen from the Brazilian ship; and WHEREAS, the USS Cook rendezvoused with her sister ship, the USS Stein, for two days of joint maneuvering and tactical exercises prior to its final journey to the Port of Long Beach; and WHEREAS, the City of Cypress wishes to build goodwill and recognition of the vital role that the Navy has in the defense of our Country. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Cypress this date adopts the USS Cook. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress at a regular meeting held on the 8th day of May, 1972.
