HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 17RESOLUTION NO. 17 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING OF THE DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, THAT THERE BE NO CENTER STRIP ON LINCOLN AVENUE, IN DAIRY CITY, OTHER THAN THAT FORMED BY WHITE LINES WITHOUT BARS. WHEREAS, the Division of Highways, State of California, has authorized the widening and reconstruction of a State High- way, known as Lincoln Avenue, passing through Cypress and the City of Dairy City, in Orange County, California; and WHEREAS, said highway traverses less than two miles of business district;:and WHEREAS, said highway passes the Cypress Elementary School, creating a hazard for school children; and WHEREAS, a large number of the residents of the entire community in question have petitioned for the slowing of traffic on Lincoln Avenue, for public safety, and against the establishment of any form of highway dividing strips, bars, etc.; and WHEREAS, said highway is frequently crossed by pedestrians and is not an expressway for the carrying of a large volume of vehicular traffic through said community; and WHEREAS, there are now definitely scheduled to be constructed the Houston Freeway and other major highways near to and parallel- ing said Lincoln Avenue for the purpose of expediting the flow of through traffic traversing this area; and WHEREAS, it is sincerely believed by the City of Dairy City that a divided highway traversing said commercial district would not be for the greatest safety or convenience of either the pedestrians or vehicles using said highway; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Dairy City, for the preceding reasons of fact, that this body requests that the Division of Highways, State of California., does not authorize, or allow to be constructed or established, on Lincoln Avenue between the intersecting streets of Moody Street and -17- Resolution No. 17 Holder Avenue, any form of center strip or highway divider, either elevated or level with the pavement, whether consisting of bars or any other device; but, instead, does authorize the establish- ment of double white lines to traverse the center of said highway for the purpose of forming dividing center islands. ADOPTED this 22nd day of February, 1957.
