A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS
REGARDING THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING THE STATE SUBMIT AT
EARLIEST .POSSIBLE DATE A PROPOSED CONTRACT FOR DELIVERY OF
NORTHERN WATER TO THE METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT OF SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, we have been advised by officials of the Metro-
politan Water District of Southern California, the major water
distribution agency in Southern California, and of vhich the
City of Cypress is a part, that it has been carrying on negotia-
tions with the State Water Resources Department seeking to obtain
from the State a contract for delivery of water from Northern
California to meet our growing population needs, and
WHEREAS, the people of the City of Cypress, together with
voters throughout the State, will be called upon at the General
Election next November 8, to vote on the proposed 51,750,000,000
bond issue to finance the Feather River Project, which has as one
of its objectives the importation of Northern California water to
Southern California; and
WHEREAS, the people of the City of Cypress, together with the
other cities and areas comprising The Metropolitan Water District
of Southern California, will be called upon to pay from 55% to 60%
of the cost of the Feather River Project, and
WHEREAS, it is highly essential that the water users and
taxpayers of Southern California have a clear understanding of the
contract obligations they are being called upon to assume before
they vote on the proposed bond issue, and
WHEREAS, the City of Cypress, as a part of The Metropolitan
Water District of Southern California, is greatly concerned in
the submission by the State of a water contract between the State
and the Metropolitan Water District that will assure our people
a future water supply adequate for their needs under fair and
equitable contract terms,

NOW, T EHEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Cypress that we urge Governor Edmund G. Brown to
call upon the State officials engaged in water contract negotia-
tions to prepare and submit a proposed contract with The Metro-
politan Water District of Southern California immediately to the
end that the people of the State of California and the Directors
of the Metropolitan Water District may be able to reach a decision
as to their position with regard to the $1,750,000,000 water bond
issue in ample time prior to the November 8, 1960 General Election.

Van Dyke, and Baroldi
