RELIEF PATROLMAN
Councilman Arrowood brought up the question of a relief patrolman
who could be on duty so that the Chief and Patrolman could be
off duty one day a week. He suggested that the retired Police
Chief might fill this need. It was pointed out that, due to his
age and physical condition, the r4tired Chief would be unable to
handle the job. Councilman Arnold suggested that, since no funds
had been set up in the budget for a third man, the City try to
make arrangements with the Sheriff's Department to handle the
patroling of the City for three shifts per week The Chief stated
that the Sheriff's cars were available for emergency calls in
the City between the hours of 3 00 A N and 8 00 A ii , but that
the Sheriff wanted it strictly understood that the emergency
would be handled only until the City's officer could be called
back on duty. There followed a discussion on the possibility of
transferring funds from the reserve, since fines and traffic
safety fund monies cannot be used for salaries Councilman
Arnold moved that the Police Chief, the Mayor and the City Manager
explore the possibility of working out an agreement with the
