April 15, 1958
An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Cypress was called to order in the City Hall, 9352 Walker Street,
at 7 00 o'clock P. Tei., with Mayor Van Dyke presiding.
Councilmen present J. Van Dyke, J. Van Leeuwen, W. J. Arrowood,
A. E. Arnold, and T. A. Baroldi
Councilmen absent' None
City officials present: City Clerk Olsthoorn, City Manager -
Deputy City Clerk Wesenberg, City
Attorney Howell, and Councilman -Elect
McCarney
GAGE VARIANCE
The City Manager reported that the City Engineer could find
nothing definite as to the title on the seven and one-half (72)
feet in question However, he believed that the Gages did not
have ownership. It was the City Engineer's suggestion that
Mr Gage institute a title search Upon motion of Councilman
Arnold, seconded by Councilman Arrowood and unanimously carried,
the matter was tabled, pending clearing of title.
BALLOT CANVASS
The Deputy City Clerk stated that four (4) applications for
absentee ballots had been received and that four (4) absentee
ballots had been mailed out He further stated that Mr Othello
Marion Hupp had returned his absentee ballot unvoted and had
voted in the customary manner. Thereupon, after comparison of
signatures by the City Clerk, the three (3) absentee ballots
were opened and placed in the ballot box. With Councilmen
Baroldi and Arnold keeping tally, it was found that the follow-
ing votes had been cast by absentee ballot*
Elmer V. Corby - 2 votes J Van Leeuwen - 1 vote
Samuel S. Rosen - 2 votes T A. Baroldi - 1 vote
M G McCarney - 2 votes W. J. Arrowood - 1 vote

During canvass of the ballots, by unanimous consent of the Council,
the count by the Election Board of the regularly voted ballots
was accepted as being accurate
ELECTION RESOLUTION
Upon motion of Councilman Baroldi, seconded by Councilman Arrowood,
Resolution No. 54, declaring the results of the General Election
of April 8, 1958, was adopted by the following roll call vote:
AYES: Councilmen Arnold, Arrowood, Baroldi,
Van Dyke, and Van Leeuwen
NOES* None
ABSENT: None
NEW COUNCILMEN SWORN IN
The City Clerk read the Oath of Office to and swore in the newly
elected Councilmen, who were Walter J. Arrowood, Thomas A
Baroldi, and Martin G McCarney Councilman McCarney was then
seated at the Council table in retiring Councilman Van Leeuwen's
place
VO1L OF THANKS
It was moved by Councilman Baroldi, seconded by Councilman Arrowood
and unanimously carried, that the Council express in a letter to
retiring Councilman Van Leeuwen their appreciation of his services
to the City and his faithfulness to his duties
ELECTION OF MAYOR
It was moved by Councilman Arrowood, seconded by Councilman
Baroldi and unanimously carried, that the election of Mayor be
by secret ballot. Councilman Arnold moved that Councilman Van
Dyke be re-elected Mayor by unanimous consent. Whereupon, a
secret ballot was taken. Upon counting the secret ballots, the
City Clerk announced that Councilman Van Dyke was re-elected
Mayor of the Council by unanimous vote.
ELECTION OF VICE MAYOR
Following the decision that the election of Vice Mayor also be

by secret ballot, said ballot was taken. The City Clerk counted
the ballots and announced that Councilman Baroldi had received
four (4) votes and Councilman Arnold, one (1) vote The City
Clerk announced that Councilman Baroldi was elected Vice mayor
of the Council.
RE -INSTATING OFFICERS
It was moved by Councilman McCarney, seconded by Councilman
Baroldi and unanimously carried, that the appointment of the
following officers of the City be re -affirmed.
City Clerk Martin Olsthoorn,
City Treasurer John C Leal,
City Attorney H. Rodger Howell,
City Engineer Nat H Neff,
City Manager -Deputy City Clerk Burton B. Wesenberg;
Police Chief Martin W. Hansen.
PLANNING COMMISSIGN APPOINTMENT
It was pointed out that, with the election of Martin G. McCarney
as Councilman, a vacancy now exists on the Planning Commission.
Councilman Arnold objected to the appointment of any more dairy-
men or poultrymen and suggested the appointment of Mr Kenneth
Bordner who lives in the residential section of the City The
matter was tabled until the next meeting.
MOSQUITO ABATEMENT BOARD APPOINTMENT
Mayor Van Dyke appointed Councilman A. E. Arnold as the City's
representative on the Mosquito Abatement District Board to re-
place Councilman Van Leeuwen
ADJOURNMENT
Upon motion of Councilman Arnold, seconded by Councilman Arrowood
and unanimously carried, the meeting was adjourned at 8'30 o'clock
P X until the next regular Council meeting.
