AN ORDINANCE OF TIE CITY OF DAIRY CITY PROHIBITING THE PRACTICE OF,
EXERCISE OF, OR AVOCATION OF, PALMISTRY, FORTUNETELLING, CLAIkVOYANCE,
MENTAL TELEPATHY, ASTROLOGY, OR RELATED ACTIVITIES, AND PROVIDING FOR
THE PENALTIES AND PUNISHMENT THEREFOR
The City Council of the City of Dairy City does ordain as follows:
Section 1.
No person, firm or corporation shall follow the calling or avocation
of palmist, fortune telling, clairvoyants, mental telepathists,
astrologists or any other calling or avocation by which such person
claims to tell the past act or history of another person or who claims
to fortell or prophesy the future acts or life of another person and
for such services rendered to such other person receives a consideration
of any kind.
Section 2:
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions
of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon
conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $500.00
or by imprisonment in the County Jail for a period of not more than six
months or by both such fine and imprisonment Each such person, firm
or corporation shall be deemed guilty of a separate offense for each day
or portion thereof during which any violation of any of the privisions
of this ordinance is committed, continued or permitted by such person,
firm or corporation and shall be punishable therefor as herein provided
Section 3•
This ordinance is an ordinance for the immediate preservation of
the public peace, health and safety and the following is a declaration
of the facts constituting the urgency; the City of Dairy City, a
municipal corporation, became duly incorporated on the 24th day of July,
1956. (gin said date the rules and regulations of the County of Orange
that were in effect and operative in the area within the boundaries of
the present city of Dairy City are in question by reason of the incorpo-
ration of said City. Said rules and regulations of the County of Orange
prohibited the practice of carrying on of activities by palmist, fortune

tellers, clairvoyants, mental telepathists, astrologists or similar
persons for the protection of the public. In order that the public will
be protected immediately it is necessary that this ordinance by adopted
as an urgency measure
Section 4:
This ordinance shall take effect immediately and within fifteen
days shall be posted in three public places in the City of Dairy City,
California, together with the names of the members of the City Council
voting for and against the sante
Passed and adopted this 8th day of July , 1957.
