AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 59 AND ADOPTING BY REFERENCE THE
FIRE PREVENTION CODE 1960 EDITION, OF THE NATIONAL
BOARD OF FIRE UNDERWRITERS AS AMENDED
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS
Section 1. There is hereby adopted by reference as the Fire Prevention
Coae of the City o. Cypress the Fire Prevention Code, 1960 Edition of the
National Board of Fire Underwriters as amended hereby, three copies of which
have been and now are filed In the Office of the City Clerk.
Section 2 Such Fire Prevention Code of the City of Cypress is hereby
amended to read as follows
(a) Article 1 --GENERAL PROVISIONS
(b)
Article L is hereby amended by adding Section 1.15 to read as
follows
'1 15 Penalties
a. Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of
the code hereby adopted or fail to comply therewith, or who
shall violate or fail to comply with any order made thereunder
or who shall build in violation of any detailed statement of
specifications or plans submitted and approved thereunder or
any certificate or permit issued thereunder and from which no
appeal has been taken, or who shall fail to comply with such
an order as £firmed or modified by the Department of Building
and Safety or by a court of competent jurisdiction within the
time fixed herein shall severally for each and every violation
and noncompliance respectively be guilty of a misdemeanor
punishable by a fine of not less than $300.00 nor more than
$500 00 or by imprisonment for not less than 30 days nor more
than 180 days or by both such fine and imprisonment. The
imposition of one penalty for any violation shall not excuse
the violation or permit it to continue and all such persons
shall be required to correct or remedy such violations or defects
within a reasonable time and wheinot otherwise specified, each
ten days that prohibited conditions are maintained shall
consitute a separate offense.
b The application of the above penalty shall not be held
to prevent the enforced removal of prohibited conditions.
Article 8--COtIPRE3SED GASES
Article 8 is hereby amended by adding Section 8.8 to read as
follows
'8.8 Anhydrous Ammonia.
Anhydrous ammonia shall he stored and handled in accordance
with nationaly recognized good practice.
(c) Article 13--FIREWOPICS
Article 13 is hereby deleted in its entirety

(d) Article 16--FLAICLIULE LIQUIDS
Section 16.22 g (b) is amended to read as follows
'In particular installations these provisions may be
altered at the discretion of the Chief of the Bureau of Fire
Prevention after consideration of special features such as
topugraphical conditions nature of occupancy and proximity
to buildings on adjoining property and height and character
of construction of such buildings capacity and construction
of proposed tanks and character of liquids to be stored,
degree of private fire protection to be provided and the
adequacy of the facilities of the fire department to cope with
flammable liquid fires
Section 16 64 a is amended to read as follows
'Location. Dispensing devices at automotive service stations
snail be so located that all parts of the vehicle being
served will be on the premises of the service station.'
Section 16 64 d is amended to read as follows
Automatic Dispensing Units The installation and use of
unattended coin operated dispensing devices for Class I
flammable liquids is prohibited.
Section 16.64 e (1) is amended to read as follows
Manual Nozzle. The dispensing of Class I flammable liquid
into a fuel tank or into a container shall be under the
control of a competent attendant at all times The use of
any device which permits the dispensing of Class I flammable
liquids when the hand of the operator of the discharge nozzle
is removed from the nozzle control lever is hereby forbidden
except when using the automatic nozzle at an automotive
service station as provided in e (2) of this section.
(e) Article 30 --WELDING OR CUTTING. CALCIU'1 CARBIDE AND ACETYLENE
GENERATORS
Section 30.1 Scope is amended to read as follows
'Welding or cutting shall include gas gaseous fuels
generated from flammable liquids under pressure or
electric—arc welding or cutting or any combination thereof

regular meeting held on the 23rd day of February, 1965
