HELD
June 7,2001
The adjourned regular joint meeting of the Cypress City Council and Cable Television
and Technology Commission was called to order at 5:34 p.m. by Mayor McGill in the
Board Room, West Wing of City Hall, 5275 Orange Avenue, Cypress, California.
PRESENT: Council Members Keenan, McCoy, Piercy, Mayor Pro Tern Sondhi, Mayor
McGill
Commissioners Harper, Martin, Washington, Vice Chair Williams, Chair
Black
ABSENT: None
STAFF PRESENT: City Manager, Assistant to the City Manager, City Clerk, and Video
Production Coordinator.
Chairperson Black stated the items to be discussed with the City Council were: recap of
Commission accomplishments for 2000-2001; progress with franchise renewal process
and future negotiations; video and technological equipment needs; and suggestions for
the City's website, including consideration of implementation of survey, and commission
page.
Chairperson Black stated some of the accomplishments for this year include the video
contest that recently concluded and the City's cable ordinance with regard to the
franchise agreement. He stated two public hearings have been held to allow citizen
input into the franchise process.
Del Heintz, Director, Local Government Affairs with AT&T, was introduced to the City
Council.
Chairperson Black stated the City's video equipment is in need of upgrading. He stated
the City's website is greatly improved and that the Commission has discussed the
possibility of having a page on the website so residents know who to address with cable
concerns.
Council Member Keenan stated all commission meetings dates and times are listed in
the City newsletter and also broadcast on the City's cable channel. He also asked what
information the commission is looking for through a survey.
Chairperson Black replied the survey questions could include rating of the quality of
service, issues or problems, the cost of cable, and what channels residents would like
to have included in the cable service. He stated the survey could be for other
commissions as well and done through the City's website.
Council Member Piercy asked if the video contest is held annually and if the
Commission would address the junior high schools next year about developing a video
club.

ITEMS FROM CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS:
Mayor McGill stated it is important for the City Council to meet with the commissions
because they serve as advisors to the Council. He thanked the Cable Television and
Technology Commission for their hard work and for meeting tonight.
ADJOURNMENT: Mayor McGill adjourned the meeting at 6:28 p.m., to Thursday, June
7, 2001, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Executive Board Room, 5275 Orange Avenue,
Cypress, California.
