A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS,
CALIFORNIA, HONORING AND COMMENDING CANADA FOR ITS
HEROIC EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF AMERICAN CITIZENS CONFINED
IN IRAN
WHEREAS, Canada and the members of its Iranian Embassy harbored
for a period of months and managed the successful escape to freedom
of six American diplomats, and
WHEREAS this feat was accomplished despite risk and danger both
to the international interest of Canada and to its brave Canadian
Embassy personnel; and

WHEREAS, Canada by this action proved once again that she and the
United States share a commonality of interest and a willingness, demon-
strated in the countless conflicts of the 20th century, to stand together
on the side of freedom and justice
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Cypress wishes to pay tribute to the great neighboring country of Canada
on the occasion of the traditional Memorial Day ceremonies on May 26,
1980, at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress and takes great pride
and pleasure in presenting this citation to the Honorable William D.
truer, Los Angeles Consul -General for Canada, with our expressions of
deepest gratitude for the actions of the Canadian nation
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress at an
adjourned regular meeting held on the 19th day of May 1980.
