ORDINANCE NO 218
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS AMENDING ORDINANCE
NO. 26, PROVIDING FOR THE CREATION OF THE PLANNING
COMMISSION, DEFINING THE DUTIES OF SUCH COMMISSION, AND
DECLARING THE NECESSITY OF SUCH COMMISSION
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS
SECTION I • Planning Commission, Creation of:
The Planning Commission for the City is hereby established with
membership powers and duties as provided herein and by the statutes of the
State
SECTION II: Appointment by Mayor:
The Mayor of the City of Cvnress shall appoint, with approval of
the City Council, members of the Planning Commission. The existing members
of the Planning Commission shall continue in office until their terms
expire as this Ordinance is not intended to terminate their present terms
SECTION III Members.
The Planning Commission shall consist of seven (7) members who
shall be qualified electors of the City Of the members of the Commission
first appointed hereunder, two shall be for a term of one (1) year, two
shall be for a term of two (2) years, two shall be for a term of three (3)
years, and one shall be for a term of four (4) years Their successors
shall be appointed for terms of four (4) years Tf vacancies shall occur
otherwise than the expiration of the term, they shall be filled by appoint -
met for the unexpired portion of the term.
SECTION TV* Absence from Meetings:
If a member of the Planning Commission shall be absent from three
(3) successive regular meetings of said Commission without cause, the
office of such member shall be deemed to be vacant and the term of such
member ipso facto terminated and the Secretary of. the Planning Commission
shall immediately inform the City Council of such termination An absence
due to illness or an unavoidable absence from the City and written notice
with explanation thereof to the Secretary of the Planning Commission on or
before the day of any regular meeting by said Commission shall he deemed
absence for cause
SECTION V Meeting Time and Place:
The said Commission shall meet regularly at least twice each month,
at a time and place fixed by resolution of said Commission and shall hold
such other meetings as shall from time to time be called in the manner
and form required by law
SECTION VI: Compensation•
That all members of said Commission shall serve as such without
compensation except such as may be fixed by the City Council from time
to time and further except that reasonable travel and other expenses may
be allowed from time to time while traveling or engaged on business
authorized by said Commission
SECTION VII Powers:
That the said City Planning Commission shall have power, except
as otherwise provided by law, as follows
A. To recommend to the proper officers of the City, plans
for the regulation of the future growth and development
and beautification of the City in respect to its public
buildings, works, streets, grounds and vacant lots
