2020-12-1419 REGULAR MEETING CYPRESS CITY COUNCIL December 14, 2020 7:00 P.M. The Cypress City Council conducted this meeting via teleconference only in accordance with California Governor Newsom's Executive Orders N-29-20 and COVID-19 pandemic protocols. Assemblywoman Quirk -Silva also congratulated Anne Hertz and Frances Marquez on their election to the City Council. Rachel Strong, Cypress, thanked Mayor Johnson and Mayor Pro Tem Yarc for their service on the City Council and congratulated Anne Hertz and Frances Marquez on their election. SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS Item No. 1: Adopt Resolution Declaring the Results of the November 3, 2020 General Municipal Election The City Clerk provided a report on this item. It was moved by Mayor Johnson and seconded by Council Member Peat to adopt a Resolution declaring the results of the November 3, 2020 General Municipal Election. The motion was unanimously carried by the following roll call vote: AYES: 5 COUNCIL MEMBERS: Berry, Morales, Peat, Yarc and Johnson NOES: 0 COUNCIL MEMBERS: None ABSENT: 0 COUNCIL MEMBERS: None 20 RESOLUTION NO. 6825 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER 3, 2020, DECLARING THE RESULT AND SUCH MATTERS AS PROVIDED BY LAW Item No. 2: Recognition of Outgoing Council Members Recognition of Mayor Johnson and Mayor Pro Tem Yarc was conducted via video. Item No. 3: Oath of Office to Newly -Elected Council Members The Oath of Office for Anne Hertz and Frances Marquez was conducted via video. Item No. 4: City Council Reorganization The City Clerk opened the nominations for Mayor. It was moved by Council Member Morales and seconded by Council Member Hertz, to nominate Council Member Peat to the office of Mayor. Council Member Peat was unanimously elected Mayor by the following roll call vote: AYES: 5 COUNCIL MEMBERS: Berry, Hertz, Marquez, Morales and Peat NOES: 0 COUNCIL MEMBERS: None ABSENT: 0 COUNCIL MEMBERS: None The City Clerk opened the nominations for Mayor Pro Tem. It was moved by Mayor Peat and seconded by Council Member Marquez, to nominate Council Member Berry to the office of Mayor Pro Tem. COUNCIL MEMBER REPORTS AND REMARKS Council Member Hertz: Stated she is honored to serve and looking forward to working with her fellow Council Members. She congratulated Mayor Peat and Mayor Pro Tem Berry on their appointments and wished the community a happy holiday season. Council Member Marquez: Thanked the outgoing Council Members for their work and stated she is looking forward to working with her Council colleagues and is excited to serve the residents of Cypress. Council Member Morales: No report. Mayor Pro Tem Berry: Congratulated Council Members Marquez and Hertz and wished the community a happy holiday season. Mayor Peat: Wished the community a happy holiday season.
