Be sure to check your email later today for an important update from HR about mask requirements and pandemic-related sick leave. If you’ve noticed a lot of Air Force jet activity this week, it’s because JFTB is hosting the planes for the Super Bowl flyover. Here’s a neat article about it: https://www.ocregister.com/2022/02/10/air- force-pilot-major-kristin-beo-wolfe-is-on-cloud-9-in-anticipation-of-super-bowl-lvi-flyover/. It’s attached as a PDF in case the link doesn’t work. I am very happy to report we’ve been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for 2021-22. This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. It represents “a significant achievement by your organization. In order to receive this award, a government must publish a budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, as a financial plan, as an operations guide, and as a communications device.” This is the third time we’ve received this award and we’ve gotten it each year since we revised our budget format to be eligible for the award. This year, for the first time, we also earned Special Performance Measures Recognition. Congratulations are due to everyone who contributes to the budget – especially those of you who have created, tracked and improved our performance measurement efforts. These awards wouldn’t have been possible without hard work and leadership from Matt Burton, Donna Mullally and Jason Machado. Great job! The City Council’s second community forum on the California Voting Rights Act challenge/election system is Tuesday at 5pm in the Eagles Nest at the Navy Golf Course. We continue to update the website with information about this important topic. You can check it out here – I think the FAQ are a worthwhile read (especially because it seems this issue will eventually present itself in nearly every city). We’re also recommending the City Council accept the completion of the Senior Center restroom remodel, a new locker room at the PW Yard (I think for the first time since the building was built 40+ years ago) and the contract for fireworks at July’s Salute to America. I mentioned the fireworks contract to my Dad earlier this week and he reminisced that my brother and I used to dig through the couch cushions to buy bottle rocks as kids and now I’m involved in buying more than $100,000 of pyrotechnics . Have a great weekend! Enjoy the Super Bowl, but don’t forget Monday is Valentine's Day and a work day (we really need to get going on a holiday the day after the Super Bowl).
