220304 1708 City Manager's Weekend UpdateFrom:Peter Grant To:Peter Grant Subject:City Manager"s Weekend Update Date:Friday, March 4, 2022 5:08:07 PM Happy Friday Team Cypress! Only one week until Lexington Park’s grand opening! I hope to see you during the course of day and you can check out the invite below and keep an eye on our social media accounts throughout the week. The City Council wrapped-up its California Voting Rights Act/election system community forums on Saturday. Discussions about how to respond to Southwest Voter Education Project’s challenge will continue at the March 14 meeting. Monday, we will welcome our new Recreation Manager Ian Kokot to Cypress. Ian is a Cypress resident and comes to us from the City of South Gate where he worked as the Recreation Superintendent. He has extensive experience in recreation, capital projects, and brought a world- class soccer facility to South Gate as part of a public-private partnership. A couple of exciting construction updates: you may have noticed the Shea/13 acre project on Katella just west of Costco has started vertical construction. Shea renamed its commercial center The Square at Cypress and it will be accompanied by a Homewood Suites by Hilton and Acadia luxury apartments. Just west of the civic center on Orange, Melia Homes has fenced the former Cypress School District headquarters. It will eventually become an affordable senior housing community, but first they have to complete asbestos remediation before they can begin demolition. Have a great weekend!
