220108 0807 City Manager's Friday Update (on a Saturday)From:Peter Grant To:Peter Grant Subject:City Manager"s Friday Update (on a Saturday) Date:Saturday, January 8, 2022 8:06:54 AM Attachments:Premium pizza dough makers open Italia’s Pizza Kitchen in Cypress – Orange County Register.pdf Welcome to 2022 Team Cypress! We’re a day late with the first update of the year due to a special City Council meeting Friday to discuss holding virtual meetings. The idea was rejected by the majority of the City Council and we will hold a socially distanced, in-person meeting Monday. Monday’s agenda includes operating policies for Lexington Park, several year-end financial reports, hiring a consultant to conduct a citywide satisfaction survey (like we did in 2018), and approval of the information presentation that will become the explainer video used in the upcoming community forums about the California Voting Rights Act challenge that could prompt the Cypress to abandon at-large elections for Council Members. We’ll record the first forum (January 19) and I’ll send you a link to the whole thing so you can better understand the issue the City Council faces. As Regina detailed yesterday, please keep mask wearing discipline and follow public health guidelines if you’re exposed or not feeling well. Omicron is seemingly everywhere and I’ve heard some really challenges situations in cities (especially PD and FD) that drop their guard. Don’t forget, Monday is “Burt’s” funeral and we’ll have more secure access to the Internet for employees’ personal devices and the public through separate connections. The city faces new and ever-evolving IT-related threats all the time and Adrian and his team do a great job protecting us. Please do your part and adhere to all protocols and take training to heart. We are working with Los Alamitos, the county, Los Alamitos Race Course and private partners to (hopefully) bring more COVID-19 testing resources to Cypress. As you’d expect this is something Council Members are interested in and it’s come to the top of the list of things cities discussed with the county on Monday. Right now there are several private locations in Cypress, but appointments are hard to come by. We’re hoping to improve that situation while we wait for this wave of infections to peak. This may not be great for New Year’s resolutions, but we’ve got a great new pizza place in Cypress!
