Hello,
This is not my preferred method of introducing myself, but I wanted to take this
opportunity to make an e-introduction of myself and provide you with a brief
background and ensure you have my contact information.
My name is Steve Dohman and I was promoted on April 8, 2022 to Division
Chief with the Orange County Fire Authority. My new assignment is to Division
7 behind recently retired Mike Petro and I serve you and your citizens as your
local Fire Chief. Some of you I have had the pleasure to meet in person at Chief
Petro’s retirement or last night’s City Council meeting. For those that I haven’t
had the pleasure of speaking to, I look forward to meeting you in person in the
near future and the opportunity to get to know you better.
I began my career in the Fire Service in February 1993 with the San Clemente
Fire Department. I worked on their city Ambulance and transitioned to the
Orange County Fire Authority in September 1994 where I was hired as a
firefighter in 1997.
Over the past 25 years with the OCFA, I have held multiple positions, specialty
assignments and have promoted through the ranks. I have served the OCFA as an
Honor Guard member, Peer Fitness Training and Fire Academy Instructor. I have
held the ranks as a Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Fire Captain, Fire
Investigator, Administrative Fire Captain, Battalion Chief, and most recently
served for the last 3.5 years as the Urban Search and Rescue Program Manager. I
have served on multiple committees, workgroups and have represented the OCFA
at the local, state and federal levels.
More than 15 years of my career has been devoted to serving on our Urban Search
and Rescue and Incident Management Teams. I have deployed throughout
California, the United States and Puerto Rico in response to wildland fires,
hurricanes, earthquakes, mudslides and most recently I was the part of Operation
Independence heading up the Logistics for the Orange County Vaccination Pods
with OC Health.
This year I will be celebrating my 24th wedding Anniversary with my wife Elisa.
We reside in San Clemente where we have raised our two daughters Quinn who is
a sophomore at Gonzaga University studying nursing and our youngest Ava who
is a junior at San Juan Hills High School.
Over the next month, I plan on visiting with all of my cities and getting up to
speed on any pressing issues/concerns as well as meeting all of you. I know I
have some big shoes to fill behind retired Division Chief Mike Petro. I am
humbled and honored to serve in my new role as your Fire Chief and I look
forward to meeting you in person and continue to foster a collaborative
relationship with you and the OCFA. Please feel free to contact me or my
Administrative Assistant Amparo if you have any needs from me or the OCFA.
Also, some of you might have heard that Administrative Fire Captain Greg
Tooley was recently promoted to Battalion Chief and I am currently recruiting his
replacement. Once selected, I will be sure to share my new Administrative
Captains’ contact information with you and your staff. Please feel free to share
my email and contact information with anyone that I might of missed on this
email.
Please let me know if you have any immediate questions or needs from me or the
OCFA and I look forward to meeting you all soon.
Respectfully,
