OBJECTING TO THE PROPOSED CYPRESS HIGH SCHOOL BOUNDARIES
AND REQUESTING RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF THE BOUNDARIES TO IN-
CLUDE THE COLLEGE PARK CYPRESS TRACT,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cypress has been informed
that the Cypress High School attendance boundaries do not include the entire
City of Cypress; and
WHEREAS, the Cypress High School attendance boundaries specifically
exclude the newly constructed College Park development located in the southern
area of the City; and
WHEREAS, the students from this residential area are now attending
Lexington Junior High School in the City of Cypress and developing friendships
with students who will be attending Cypress High School; and
WHEREAS, these students were previously advised that they would be attending
Cypress High School; and
WHEREAS, the total high school age population in this residential area
will not be large enough to have a major impact on either Western High School or
Cypress High School; and
WHEREAS, these new citizens to the City are striving to develop an
identity with their community of Cypress; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cypress strongly encourages
community identification with all its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cypress has historically
supported and generated total community support for the programs of the Anaheim
Union High School District, including the 1970 high school bond and tax override
proposals in which over 70% of the citizens of the City of Cypress voted in
favor; and
WHEREAS, this is an indication of the strong community support existing
in Cypress; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cypress is dismayed and disturbed
at the possibility of these students being transported outside the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cypress
that the Board of Trustees of the Anaheim Union High School District re-evaluate
the proposed Cypress High School attendance boundaries and that strong consideration
