RESOLUTION NO. 5409
RECOGNIZING CHRISTY SCHOPP ON BEING SELECTED AS THE
2001 WOMAN OF THE YEAR BY THE CYPRESS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
WHEREAS, Christy Schopp has been selected by the Cypress Chamber of Commerce as the 2001
Woman of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Christy joined Yamaha Motor Corporation in 1984 in the Human Resources department
as Assistant Manager; and
WHEREAS, Christy and her two children, Jon and Kristin, moved to Cypress in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Christy began her involvement with the Cypress Chamber of Commerce by joining the
Business and Education Committee in 1994; has been on the Planning Committee for the Student Breakfast
since 1995; assisted in writing and producing the interviewing videos for the Student Breakfast; and was the
emcee for the Student Breakfast in 2001; and
WHEREAS, Christy has been a Cypress Chamber Ambassador for four years, Chief Ambassador
for three years, and was voted Ambassador of the Year by her fellow Ambassadors in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Christy joined the Cypress Rotary Club in 2000, and has been the Youth Service
Representative for two years, and is presently the Secretary; and
WHEREAS, Christy is a member of the Cypress Boys and Girls Club Board, and is Chairperson for
the King Elementary School Partnership Collaborative; and
WHEREAS, Christy has been a member of the Cypress College Business Advisory Committee since
1995, and is a Steering Committee member for the Oxford Academy Council; and
WHEREAS, Christy joined the Cypress Festival Public Relations Committee this year and is chairing
the Mayor's Breakfast; and
WHEREAS, Christy has served on the Golf Committees for the Cypress Chamber of Commerce,
Cypress Rotary Club, and Cypress College Foundation, and is known as a professional hole watcher; and
WHEREAS, Christy has volunteered for Cypress High School Football Golf Tournaments, Red
Ribbon Week, Day of Caring, Cinco de Mayo, and Career Days at Cypress High School, and reading to
students at the elementary schools; and
WHEREAS, as a single mom, Christy balances her family, work and volunteer activities to the
advantage of all three; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cypress is indeed very fortunate to have a citizen of Christy's caliber as a
member of the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Cypress, California,
does hereby recognize and extend congratulations to Christy Schopp on being named the 2001 Woman of
the Year by the Cypress Chamber of Commerce.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress at a regular
meeting held on the 29th day of May, 2001.
