MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE CYPRESS
RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION
December 17, 2024
The regular meeting of the Cypress Recreation and Community Services Commission was called to order
at 6:01 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, in the Cypress Community Center Conference Room.
PRESENT: Commission Chair Dronkers, Commission Vice Chair Edwards, Commissioners
Cervantes, Erbe, Jackson, and Logovii.
ABSENT: Commissioner Ridgeway
Also present, Ian Kokot, Recreation and Community Services Manager; Ervy Rodriguez, Recreation
Supervisor.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The pledge of the flag was led by Cahrynn Dronkers.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (Limited to 30 minutes — three minutes per speaker, unless extended by the
Commission)
Commission Chair Dronkers recognized Youth Action Committee members Derek Di, Emily Renta, and
Sophie Renta.
Incoming Mayor Pro Tem Medrano praised the Recreation Commission for their service to the community.
Teddy Lloyd, Cerritos resident, spoke on the new pickleball courts at Arnold Cypress Park.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Approve Minutes — Meeting of November 19, 2024
It was moved by Commission Vice Chair Edwards, and seconded by Commissioner Logovii, to approve the
minutes of the November 19, 2024, meeting.
Motion was carried by the following roll call vote:
AYES: 6 COMMISSIONERS: Cervantes, Dronkers, Edwards, Erbe, Jackson, Logovii,
NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None
ABSENT: 1 COMMISSIONERS: Ridgeway
2. 2024 Holiday Decorating Contest
Recreation Manager Kokot displayed a Powerpoint presentation of the decorated homes; informed that 18
entries total were received; and asked the Commission to determine the award recipients and Best of the
Best.
Commission discussion ensued.
It was moved by Commission Vice Chair Edwards, and seconded by Commissioner Erbe, to approve
awarding "Light Up the Town" to 9327 Christopher Street; "Small Spaces" to 4076 Orange Avenue; "Classic
Christmas" to 5324 Rome Avenue; "Toyland" to 6554 Grand Manan Drive; "Santa's Workshop" to 5242
Marcella; "Gingerbread" to 5592 Lime Avenue; "Best of the Best" to 9832 Carrara Circle.
Motion was carried by the following roll call vote:

NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None

STAFF REPORTS AND DISCUSSION:
Arnold Cypress Park Update
Recreation Manager Kokot: Installation of playground, plumbing, electricity; still on target to be opened
spring 2025.
OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION FROM COMMISSION MEMBERS:
Commissioner Jackson: spoke of enjoying viewing the Holiday Decorating Contest entries.
Commission Vice Chair Edwards: thanked staff for their support with the Holiday Decorating Contest..
ADJOURNMENT:
It was moved by Commissioner Jackson, and seconded by Commissioner Cervantes, to adjourn the
meeting at 6:31 p.m. to the regular meeting of January 21, 2025, to be held in the Cypress Community
Center Conference Room at 6:00 p.m.
