MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE CYPRESS
RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION
July 17, 2024
The regular meeting of the Cypress Recreation and Community Services Commission was called to order at
6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2024, in the Cypress Community Center Conference Room.
PRESENT: Commission Chair Dronkers, Commissioners Cervantes, Edwards, Erbe, Logovii, and
Ridgeway
ABSENT: Commission Vice Chair Jackson
Also present, Jeff Draper, Director of Recreation and Community Services; Ian Kokot, Recreation and
Community Services Manager.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The pledge of the flag was led by Commissioner Logovii
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (Limited to 30 minutes — three minutes per speaker, unless extended by the
Commission)
Cypress resident Kyle Chang spoke of running for Cypress City Council District 3 and of the lights at Oak Knoll
Park.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Approve Minutes — Meeting of June 18, 2024
It was moved by Commissioner Edwards, and seconded by Commissioner Ridgeway, to approve the minutes of
the regular meeting of June 18, 2024.
The motion was carried by the following roll call vote:
AYES: 6 COMMISSIONERS: Cervantes, Dronkers, Edwards, Erbe, Logovii, and Ridgeway
NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None
ABSENT: 1 COMMISSIONERS: Jackson
2. Reorganization of the Recreation and Community Services Commission
Nominations were opened for Chair. Commissioner Ridgeway nominated Commissioner Dronkers, and
Commissioner Erbe seconded.
The motion was carried by the following roll call vote:
AYES: 6 COMMISSIONERS: Cervantes, Dronkers, Edwards, Erbe, Logovii, and Ridgeway
NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None
ABSENT: 1 COMMISSIONERS: Jackson
Nominations were opened for Vice Chair. Commission Chair Dronkers nominated Commissioner Edwards, and
Commissioner Erbe seconded.
The motion was carried by the following roll call vote:

NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None
ABSENT: 1 COMMISSIONERS: Jackson
3. Park Visitation Assignments
The Director provided background and a Powerpoint presentation on the park visitations.
The Commission received and filed the Fiscal Year 2024/25 park visitations

Cypress resident Kyle Chang thanked the Commissioners for their service to the community.
STAFF REPORTS AND DISCUSSION:
Arnold Cypress Park Update
The Director provided a Powerpoint presentation on Arnold Cypress Park and announced that staff will do a tour
of the site with Council and the Commission in late August or early September.
OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION FROM COMMISSION MEMBERS:
Commissioner Cervantes: Salute to America. Praised the event.
Commissioner Ridgeway: attending the Concerts on the Green.
Commission Vice Chair Edwards: Salute to America. Praised staff for their efforts. Spoke of having a receptacle
placed in the Community Center for old flags to be collected for Boy Scout troops for their flag retirement
ceremonies.
Commission Chair Dronkers asked if the 2025 Salute event would take place on the 4th of July.
The Director responded that staff will be in talks with the college to have the event on July 3.
ADJOURNMENT:
It was moved by Commission Vice Chair Edwards, and seconded by Commissioner Ridgeway, to adjourn the
meeting at 6:51 p.m. to the regular meeting of August 20, 2024, to be held in the Cypress Community Center
Conference Room at 6:00 p.m.
