06-18-2024 MinutesRECREATION MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE CYPRESS RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION June 18, 2024 The regular meeting of the Cypress Recreation and Community Services Commission was called to order at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in the Cypress Community Center Conference Room. PRESENT: Commission Chair Dronkers, Commission Vice Chair Jackson, Commissioners Edwards, Erbe, Logovii, and Ridgeway ABSENT: None Also present, Jeff Draper, Director of Recreation and Community Services; lan Kokot, Recreation and Community Services Manager. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The pledge of the flag was led by Commission Chair Dronkers. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (Limited to 30 minutes — three minutes per speaker, unless extended by the Commission) None. NEW BUSINESS 1. Approve Minutes — Meeting of May 21, 2024 Commissioner Edwards pointed out that under "Adjournment" it was noted the June 18 meeting is to be held at the Cypress Senior Center. It was moved by Commissioner Edwards, and seconded by Commissioner Ridgeway, to approve the minutes as amended of the regular meeting of May 21, 2024. The motion was carried by the following roll call vote: AYES: 6 COMMISSIONERS: Dronkers, Edwards, Erbe, Jackson, Logovii, and Ridgeway NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None ABSENT: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None 2. Review the Recreation and Community Services Strategic plan The Director provided an overview of the Recreation and Community Services Strategic Plan. The Commissioners asked questions of staff. It was moved by Commissioner Erbe, and seconded by Commissioner Ridgeway, to receive and file the Recreation and Community Services Strategic Plan report. The motion was carried by the following roll call vote: AYES: 6 COMMISSIONERS: Dronkers, Edwards, Erbe, Jackson, Logovii, and Ridgeway NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None ABSENT: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (Three minutes per speaker, unless extended by the Commission) None. STAFF REPORTS AND DISCUSSION: Arnold Cypress Park Update The Director: vertical construction has begun at site; will be scheduling tour for mid-August with Council, Commission, and Cypress Girls Softball League. Joint Meeting with City Council and Recreation Commission — September 9 The Director announced that the Commission will be presenting an annual report to the City Council on September 9. Summer Programming The Director: Summer concerts begin June 21; summer day camp enrollment at maximum capacity. The Recreation Manager: Challenger Basketball is at capacity with 120 participants. The Director reported on a sign posted at a street adjacent to Mackay Park restricting parking to only HOA residents and of the City Attorney stating HOA cannot limit parking. OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION FROM COMMISSION MEMBERS: No reports from Commissioners.
