MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CYPRESS
RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION
October 29, 2024
The special meeting of the Cypress Recreation and Community Services Commission was called to order
at 6:03 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, in the Cypress Community Center Conference Room.
PRESENT: Commission Chair Dronkers, Commissioners Cervantes, Erbe, Jackson, Logovii, and
Ridgeway. Commission Vice Chair Edwards arrived at 6:09 p.m.
ABSENT: None
Also present, Jeff Draper, Director of Recreation and Community Services; lan Kokot, Recreation and
Community Services Manager.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The pledge of the flag was led by Cypress resident Jayen Shah.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (Limited to 30 minutes — three minutes per speaker, unless extended by the
Commission)
Jayen Shah spoke on heart disease and raising awareness within the community.
NEW BUSINESS
1. 2024 Halloween Decorating Contest
The Director informed there were 19 entries and that the Commission will be selecting the first, second, and
third place winners.
Recreation Commission discussion ensued.
It was moved by Commission Vice Chair Edwards, and seconded by Commissioner Jackson, to approve
5412 Camp Street as the first place winner, 9832 Carrara Circle as the second place winner, and 4076
Orange Avenue as the third place winner.
Motion was carried by the following roll call vote:
AYES: 7 COMMISSIONERS: Cervantes, Dronkers, Edwards, Erbe, Jackson, Logovii, and
Ridgeway
NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None
ABSENT: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None
Commission Vice Chair Edwards asked how the winners will be notified and if they will be recognized at a
City Council meeting.
The Director responded that certificates can be presented to the winners and that a request can be put
forward to have the winners recognized at a Council meeting, but it will be difficult to arrange at this time of
the year.
Commissioner Erbe suggested delivering the certificates in person to the winners.
Commission Chair Dronkers and Commissioners Erbe and Jackson offered to drop off the certificates to
the winners.
The Recreation Manager informed that updated photos of the decorated homes are posted on the website.

STAFF REPORTS AND DISCUSSION:
None.
OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION FROM COMMISSION MEMBERS:
Commissioner Cervates: spoke of numerous mosquitos at the tennis courts.
The Director stated that vector control will be notified.
Commissioner Erbe: attended the Cypress Women's Conference on October 23 and spoke of the event
being well organized. Reported attending the Cypress Chamber of Commerce City Council Candidates
Forum in which five of the candidates indicated parks and recreation as the first department they would cut
from the City budget.
Commissioner Ridgeway: attended the Cypress Women's Conference on October 23 and spoke of how
much she enjoyed the event.
ADJOURNMENT:
It was moved by Commissioner Ridgeway, and seconded by Commissioner Erbe, to adjourn the meeting
at 6:29 p.m. to the regular meeting of November 19, 2024, to be held in the Cypress Community Center
Conference Room at 6:00 p.m.
