HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-10-2025 MinutesINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE SENIOR CITIZENS CO MISSION OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS September 10, 2025 The regular meeting of the Cypress Senior Citizens Commission was called to order at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in the Cypress Senior Center Conference Room, 9031 Grindlay Street, Cypress, California. PRESENT: Commission Chair Skorupinski, Commission Vice Chair Croce, Commissioners Button, Machal, Nessary, Osman, Reames ABSENT: None Also present: Jeff Draper, Director of Recreation and Community Services; Ian Kokot, Recreation Manager; Shayna Gutierrez, Recreation Supervisor; Taylor Burtle, Recreation Coordinator PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The pledge was led by Commissioner Reames. Approve MinutesAugust 13, 2025 It was moved by Commissioner Button, and seconded by Commissioner Machal, to approve the minutes of the meeting of August 13, 2025. The motion was carried by the following roll call vote: AYES: 7 COMMISSIONERS: Button, Croce, Machal, Nessary, Osman, Reames, and Skorupinski NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None ABSENT: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None STAFF REPORTS (NO ACTION OR DISCUSSION REQUIRED) Report of Senior Center Events Recreation Supervisor Gutierrez: Rodeo Lunch, September 12; Cypress 5K Run/Walk, October 4. Announced no Senior Commission meeting in October. Passed around sign-up sheet for meet -and - greet. Recreation Coordinator Burtle: Thirty registered for All About That Pace; Halloween Boogie Night Boo Bash, October 31 The Recreation Manager: Council approved Senior Center door project and installation of new doors to be completed by the end of the year. Rescheduling of Joint Meeting with City Council The Director: provided dates of October 13 or October 27 that were suggested by Mayor Burke for rescheduling the joint meeting with Council and distributed an outline of what the Commissioners are to discuss at that meeting. Following discussion, the Commissioners decided on October 13 for rescheduling of the joint meeting. Celebrate Cypress Events The Director: 5K Run/Walk, October 4; Community Festival, October 4; joint meeting with City Council, October 13; State of the City, October 14; Prayer Breakfast, October 23. Women's Conference, November 6. Reminded no regular Commission meeting in October. SENIOR COMMISSION MEMBER REPORTS FROM COMMISSION -AFFILIATED BOARDS, COMMITTEES,; SENIOR PROG - • MS/ACTIVITIES, AND REMARKS Commissioner Button: City Council meeting; luau dining center program; Sunshine Club Board meeting; Cypress Chamber of Commerce meeting. Commissioner Machal: Luau dining center program. Completed ethics training. Commissioner Nessary: Woman's Club meeting; luau dining center program; Senior Citizens Club Monday night bingo; Sunshine Club Thursday bingo; senior club trip. Completed ethics training. Commissioner Osman: Luau dining center program; chair volleyball, meet -and -greet. Distributed the results of a survey of Senior Center patrons that she and Commission Chair Skorupinski conducted during a meet -and -greet. Commissioner Reames: Luau dining center program; chair volleyball; Sunshine Club Board meeting; City Council meetings. Signed up to volunteer for the Cypress 5K Run/Walk. Completed ethics training. Commission Vice Chair Croce: Tai -chi and exercise classes; luau dining center program; Symphony on the Go. Commission Chair Skorupinski: Games 4 Brains; cribbage; chair volleyball; Council meetings. Completed ethics training.
