ORDINANCE NO. 1229
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS, CALIFORNIA,
AMENDING CYPRESS MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 1-13 AND ADDING SUBSECTIONS
1-13.1 AND 1-13.2 TO REGULATE USE OF THE CITY SEAL AND CITY LOGO
WHEREAS, the City Council (the "City Council") of the City of Cypress (the "City")
has previously adopted section 1-13 to designate the size and form of the official seal of the
City;
WHEREAS, the City of Cypress has a City Seal and City logo that are not protected
from unauthorized use by ordinance or copyright law;
WHEREAS, California Government Code § 34501.5 and Elections Code § 18304
solely protect city seals by prohibiting the use of a city seal in campaign literature or mass
mailing with the intent to deceive voters; and
WHEREAS, the unauthorized use, reproduction or facsimile of a city seal or logo for
any purpose may create a misleading, erroneous or false impression that the document,
item, statement, event, and/or organization is authorized, supported, and/or sponsored by
the City or a public official; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to protect its official Seal, logo and related marks from
all unauthorized uses to prevent fraud, deception, misrepresentation, and/or abuse; and
WHEREAS, the City additionally desires to update the design of its official Seal; and
WHEREAS, the City Council seeks to ensure that the City Seal, the City logo, and
other City insignia are used only for purposes directly related to the official business of the
City of Cypress, or as expressly authorized.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS,
CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Recitals Incorporated. The City Council hereby specifically finds that all
of the facts set forth in the above Recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein as
findings of the City Council.
SECTION 2. Amendment. Section 1-13 of the Cypress Municipal Code is hereby
amended as to the design of the City Seal and City logo and further amended to add
Subsection 1-13.1 entitled "Use of City Seal and City Logo" and Subsection 1-13.2 entitled
"Penalties" to read as follows:
§1-13 Official Seal
(a)The official seal of the city shall be of the size and form and shall bear the figures and
inscriptions set out as follows:

(b)The official logo of the city shall be of the size and form and shall bear the figures and
inscriptions set out as follows:
