THE SENIOR CITIZENS COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS
February 11, 2026
The regular meeting of the Cypress Senior Citizens Commission was called to order at 3:00 p.m.
on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in the Cypress Senior Center Conference Room, 9031
Grindlay Street, Cypress, California.
PRESENT: Commission Chair Skorupinski, Commissioners Button, Machal, Nessary,
Osman, Reames
ABSENT: Commission Vice Chair Croce
Also present: Jeff Draper, Director of Recreation and Community Services; Ian Kokot, Recreation
Manager; Shayna Gutierrez, Recreation Supervisor; Taylor Burtle, Recreation Coordinator; Andi
Terry, Recreation Coordinator; Jose Coronel-Rivera, Recreation Specialist; Katherine Diaz,
Recreation Specialist

NEW BUSINESS
1. Approve Minutes — January 14, 2026
It was moved by Commissioner Button, and seconded by Commissioner Reames, to approve the
minutes of the meeting of January 14, 2026.
The motion was carried by the following roll call vote:
AYES: 6 COMMISSIONERS: Button, Machal, Nessary, Osman, Reames, and Skorupinski
NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None
ABSENT: 1 COMMISSIONERS: Croce
2. Six Month Program Summary, July 1 — December 31. 2025
Staff provided an overview of the Cypress Senior Center programs and services for July 1, 2025,
through December 31, 2025.
No action was taken.
3. Fiscal Year 2026-2027 Budget Update
The Director provided background on the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget process and calendar.
The Commissioners asked questions of staff.
No action was taken.

Grace Lachina Award Update
Recreation Supervisor Gutierrez: deadline for Grace Lachina Award application Friday, February 13
and that 18 applications have been received.
The Director: announced the City Council Commissioners' Appreciation Reception, April 30.
Recreation Coordinator Burtle: Boogie Night Mardi Gras Carnival, February 27.
Recreation Coordinator Terry: Cupid's Caf� Dining Center Event, February 10; Lucky Charms
Dining Center Event, March 13. Announced that starting February 12 Rainbow Cone will be at the
Senior Center once a month selling ice cream and donuts. Reported teen volunteers will be
distributing roses at the Cupid's Caf� lunch. Passed around volunteer sheet for dining center
events.

Commissioner Button: Sunshine Club Board meeting; January 9 City Council meeting; Chamber of
Commerce meeting.
Commissioner Machal: Kiwanis Served 900 pancake breakfasts at Cypress Girls Softball
League's Opening Day; Kiwanis Club presented Cypress Recreation and Community Services
Director Jeff Draper with an award at the club's 75th anniversary celebration on February 7.
Commissioner Nessary: Bingo and board meetings for both Senior and Sunshine Clubs;
Commissioner meet and greet in Senior Center lobby; Senior Club day trip; Games for Brains;
Cypress Woman's Club meeting; online City Council meetings; winter formal at Westminster
Senior Center; Cypress Girls Softball Opening Day; Wednesday Plus 40's dances.
Commissioner Osman: Kiwanis Club 75th Anniversary Celebration; Chamber of Commerce
meeting; chair volleyball; online City Council meetings; deliveries for Meals on Wheels. Praised
Recreation and Community Services Director Jeff Draper for award received at the Kiwanis
Anniversary Celebration.
Commissioner Reames: No report. Praised the City Council's approving a senior day care center
in Cypress.

Commission Chair Skorupinski adjourned the meeting of February 11, 2026, at 4:10 p.m. to the
regular meeting of arch 11, 2026, to be held in the Senior Center Conference Room at 3:00 p.m.
