THE SENIOR CITIZENS COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS
May 13, 2026
The regular meeting of the Cypress Senior Citizens Commission was called to order at 3:00
p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in the Cypress Senior Center Conference Room, 9031
Grindley Street, Cypress, California.
PRESENT: Commission Chair Skorupinski, Commission Vice Chair Croce,
Commissioners Button, Machal, Nessary, Osman, Reames
ABSENT: None
Also present: Jeff Draper, Director of Recreation and Community Services; Ian Kokot,
Recreation Manager; Shayna Gutierrez, Recreation Supervisor; Taylor Burtle, Recreation
Coordinator
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The pledge was led by Commissioner Osman

NEW BUSINESS
1. Approve Minutes - April 8; 2026
It was moved by Commissioner Button, and seconded by Commissioner Nessary, to approve
the minutes of the meeting of April 8, 2026.
The motion was carried by the following roll call vote:
AYES: 7 COMMISSIONERS: Button, Croce, Machal, Nessary, Osman, Reames, and
Skorupinski
NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None
ABSENT: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None
2. Senior Mobility Program Annual Review
Recreation Coordinator Burtle provided background on the Nutrition Taxi and Taxi Voucher
programs.
Recreation and Community Services Director Draper reported that Recreation Coordinator
Burtle provided a presentation to Orange County Transit Authority on the Senior Center's
Nutrition and Taxi Voucher programs.
Commissioners asked questions of staff.
No action taken.
STAFF REPORTS (NO ACTION OR DISCUSSION REQUIRED)
Senior Center Projects Update
Recreation and Community Services Director Draper: National Night Out, July 25. Thanked
Commissioners for attending the Commissioner Appreciation Reception and the Youth Action
Committee Recognition Reception. Spoke on where and when Commissioners should wear
their name badges.
Recreation Manager Kokot: City Council approved the City-wide LED outdoor lighting project
and that the work should start in June with completion by the end of this year; summer concerts
starting June 19; Salute to America at Cypress College, July 3.
Recreation Supervisor Gutierrez: thanked the Commissioners for attending the Volunteer
Recognition and Mother's Day Garden Party. Reported the Senior Center hosted the monthly
senior grocery program today.
Recreation Coordinator Burtle: Chair volleyball with Stanbridge University occupational therapy
students, May 12; Resource Fair, June 12.
SENIOR COMMISSION MEMBER REPORTS FROM COMMISSION -AFFILIATED BOARDS,
COMMITTEES, SENIOR PROG - ' MS/ACTIVITIES, AND REMARKS
Commissioner Button: Commissioner Appreciation Reception. Thanked staff for the journals
they received at the event. Volunteer Recognition; Youth Action Committee Recognition
Reception. Praised the Youth Action Committee participants. Attended a Sunshine Club
Board meeting at which the members voted not to combine with the Senior Citizens Club.
Commissioner Machal: No report. Spoke of looking forward to upcoming events.
Commissioner Nessary: Senior and Sunshine Club board meetings and bingo; Senior Center
presentations on vitamins and scams; Games for Brains; April birthday lunch program;
Volunteer Recognition; Commissioner Appreciation Reception; Mother's Day Garden Party;
Karaoke Party lunch caf�.
Commissioner Osman: Mother's Day Garden Party; chair yoga; chair volleyball; Volunteer
Recognition; Commissioner Appreciation Reception; City Council meetings

Commission Chair Skorupinski adjourned the meeting of ay 13, 2026, at 3:43 p.m. to the
regular meeting of June 10, 2026, to be held in the enior Center Conference oom at 3:00
p.m.
