HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-19-2026 MinutesMINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE CYPRESS RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION May 19, 2026 The regular meeting of the Cypress Recreation and Community Services Commission was called to order at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in the Cypress Community Center Garden Room. PRESENT: Commission Chair Dronkers, Commission Vice Chair Edwards, Commissioners Cervantes, Erbe, and Logovii. ABSENT: Commissioners Jackson and Russell Also present, Jeff Draper, Director of Recreation and Community Services; Ian Kokot, Recreation and Community Services Manager PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The pledge of the flag was led by Commissioner Cervantes ORAL COMMUNICATIONS (Limited to 30 minutes — three minutes per speaker, unless extended by the Commission) None. NEW BUSINESS 1. Approve Minutes-Meetino of April 21, 2026 It was moved by Commissioner Cervantes, and seconded by Commission Vice Chair Edwards, to approve the minutes of the April 21, 2026, meeting. Motion was carried by the following roll call vote: AYES: 5 COMMISSIONERS: Cervantes, Dronkers, Edwards, Erbe, and Logovii NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None ABSENT: 2 COMMISSIONERS: Jackson and Russell 2. Pickleball Court Rules Update Director of Recreation and Community Services Draper provided background on the staff report and thanked the ad hoc committee for updating the rules for the pickleball courts. Discussion ensued between Commissioners and staff over placement of the pickleball racks at the Arnold Cypress courts. Director of Recreation and Community Services Draper recommended a special meeting to view the pickleball courts at Arnold Cypress Park on Monday, June 8 at 6:00 p.m. 3. Consideration of a One -Day Ci Sponsored Cultural Festival to be Held in Sprinq 2027 Director of Recreation and Community Services Draper provided background on the staff report and asked Commissioners for their input and recommendations. Discussion ensued between Commissioners and staff. It was moved by Commission Chair Dronkers, and seconded by Commissioner Erbe, to form an ad hoc subcommittee consisting of Commission Chair Dronkers, Commission Vice Chair Edwards, and Commissioner Cervantes, to provide recommendations for a one day cultural festival for spring 2027. Motion was carried by the following roll call vote: AYES: 5 COMMISSIONERS: Cervantes, Dronkers, Edwards, Erbe, and Logovii NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None ABSENT: 2 COMMISSIONERS: Jackson and Russell STAFF REPORTS AND DISCUSSION: Director of Recreation and Community Services Draper: City Council to consider adoption of the Fiscal Year 2026/27 budget at the June 9 meeting. OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION FROM COMMISSION MEMBERS: Commissioner Cervantes: Reported seeing mushrooms growing on a tree at Darrell Essex Park during his park inspection and asked if that something he should report. Director of Recreation and Community Services Draper responded that Commissioners can report those issues to staff or on the Cypress app. Commissioner Erbe: Reported on an outhouse at Maple Grove South during her park inspection. Commissioner Logovii: Enjoyed Commissioner Appreciation Reception. Commission Vice Chair Edwards: Thanked staff for all of their work done for the Commission. Commission Chair Dronkers: Reported that at another meeting he attended hearing from residents who live in the neighborhood of Maple Grove North Park that they do not want a restroom installed at that site. ADJOURNMENT: Commission Chair Dronkers adjourned the meeting at 7:13 p.m. to the regular meeting of June 16, 2026, to be held in the Cypress Community Center Ballroom A at 6:00 p.m. SECRETARY TO THE RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION 2
