OF THE CYPRESS CITY COUNCIL
HELD
September 18, 1967
An adjourned regular meeting of the Cypress City Council was held on
Monday, September 18, 1967, at 7:30 p.m., in the Cypress City Hall,
5275 Orange Avenue, Cypress, Mayor Robert.C. Harvey presiding.
PRESENT: Councilmen Bowen, Kanel, McCarney, Noe, and Harvey
ABSENT: None
Also present were City Manager/City Clerk Darrell Essex and Assistant
City Manager Darrell Dalton.
REQUEST FROM CYPRESS LIONS CLUB TO PROCLAIM OCTOBER llth AS "YOUTH IN
GOVERNMENT DAY": The City Manager reviewed a communication from
Mr. Richard Morris, Second Vice President of the Cypress Lione Club,
requesting the City Council to support VYouth in Government Day" in
conjunction with the activities scheduled for "Salute to City and
County Government" week. The "Youth in Government Day" activities
are sched-uled to be held on Wednesday, October 11, I967, and will
involve the students from Cypress Junior College. The communication
further requested the City Council and Mayor to proclaim Wednesday,
October llth as "Youth in Government Day".
Following discussion, it was moved by Councilman Noe, seconded by
Councilman Bowen, and unanimously carried, to proclaim October 11,
1967, as "Youth in Government Day".
The Mayor officially proclaimed Wednesday, October llth as "Youth in
Government Day".
The Mayor announced that the purpose of this meeting was to review the
first quarterly activities of the Cypress Chamber of Commerce, pursuant
to the contract between the City and the Chamber of Commerce for promo-
tional activities.
A general discussion ensued between City Council members and the members
of the Cypress Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors regarding the
activities of the Chamber of Commerce.
Specific programs discussed included the "Miss Cypress" contest, the City
Beautificat~on Program, the Chamber of Connnerce Golf Tournament, Christmas
Program, the City Entrance Sign project, and the status of the commercial
and industrial promotional programs.
ADJOURNMENT:
It was moved by Councilman Noe, seconded by Councilman McCarney, and
unanimously carried, to adjourn the meeting at 9:35 p.m.
