The adjourned regular meeting of the Cypress City Comcil was called to order
at 2:55 p.m., on Monday, June 22, 1970, in the Administrative Conference Room,
5275 Orange Avenue, Cypress, California, Mayor John Kanel presiding.
PRESENT: Councilme~ Harvey, Lacayo, Roberos and Kanel
ABSENT: Councilman Kenode
It was moved by Co~mcilm~m Har~my, seconded by Councilman Lacayo and unani~ously
carried to approve the Minutes of May 27, 1970, Jume 8, 1970, June 12, 1970,
June 13, 1970, and June 14, 1970 as mailed.
At the request of the City Manager, it was moved by Councilman Harvey, seconded
by Councilman Lacayo and unanimously carried to place on the agenda at this time the
consideration of a Letter of Commendation for Mr. Richard Morris, outgoing
President of the Cypress Chamber of Commerce.
Following discussion, it was moved by Councilman Harvey, seconded by Councilman
Lacayo and unanimously carried to request the City Manager to transmit a Letter of
Commendation to Mr. Richard Morris for his service during the past year as President
of the Cypress Chamber of Commerce.
At the request of the City Manager, it was moved by Councilman Harvey, seconded
by Councilman Lacayo and unanimously carried to place the consideration to waive
the filing requirement date for a fireworks stand permit as requested by Mr.
Charles Watson, representing the Co~anunity Chapel of Long Beach, on the agenda
at this time.
It was moved by Councilmam Harvey, seconded by Councilm~ Lacayo and unanimously
carried to waive the City filing date requirement for a fireworks stand permit as
requested by the Community Chapel of Long Beach, providing the applicant conforms
with the City Code regarding firework stands,
Following a brief discussion, it was moved by Councilman Roberrs, seconded
by Councilman Lacayo and unanimously carried to place the consideration of
Assembly Bill 1019 on the agenda at such time as Councilm~% Kenode is
present.
Discussion was held relative to a study on mobile home parks, and it was the
general opinion of the Council that this matter should not be pursued at the
present time.
It was moved by Councilman Roberts, and seconded by Cotmcilman Lacayo to add
Items 13, 14 and 15, on the agenda for the June 22, 1970 regular meeting of the
City Council, to the Consent Calendar, with the recommendations for these items
to be read by the City Manager.
Following discussion, the motion carried by the following vote:
AYES: 3 COUNCILMEN: Lacayo, Roberrs and Kanel
NOES: 1 COUNCILMAN: Harvey
ABSENT: 1 COUNCILMAN: Kenode
At the request of Mayor Kanel, it was moved by Councilman Harvey, seconded by
Councilman Lacayo and unanimously carried to place the consideration of an existing
problem at the Juanita Street park on the agenda at this time.
Mayor Kanel stated that he had received a communication from some of the
homeowners who reside in the vicinity of the Juanits Street park, expressing
concern due to the condition and the misuse of the barn, located at the park,
and also the need for more adequate lighting, and the need for grass and
shrubbery at the location.
COUNCILMAN KANODE ARkI~ED AT 3:50 P.M.
It was moved by Councilmam Lacayo and seconded by Co~mcilman Harvey that the
communication received by Mayor Kenel regarding the situation at the Juanira
Street park, be given to the City Manager and the Park and P~creation Director
for study~
Councilman Roberrs indicated that he would like the motion amended to include
that Mrs. McQueen and a delegate of those citizens who have expressed concern
regarding the existing problems at Juanits Street Park, be informed of the date
of the City Council meeting on which this issue will be discussed. Councilman
Harvey and Councilman Lacayo agreed to the amendment. The motion was unanimously
caIried .

carried to adjourn the meeting at 3:59 p.m.
