RESOLUTION NO. 5476
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS,
IN SUPPORT OF THE GENERAL CONCEPT
OF THE ORANGE LINE PREDEPLOYMENT PLANNING STUDY
WHEREAS, the City of Cypress acknowledges the growing importance of providing
alternatives to auto driving, of improving air quality, managing traffic congestion, and to
continue economic development; and
WHEREAS, expanded public transportation is a key element for improving the quality of
life in the City of Cypress; and
WHEREAS, The City of Cypress recognizes the need to develop transportation
solutions through consensus-building and mutual support to improve and increase the quality
of life in Southern California; and
WHEREAS, in June 2000 the West Orange County Cities Association completed a
feasibility study of transit improvements using the Pacific Electric right-of-way through the City
of Cypress and other potential transit corridors that would serve West Orange County cities;
and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Transportation Authority is preparing to initiate the
West Orange County Project Definition Study, a follow-up study that will develop a preferred
alternative for transit improvements serving West Orange County cities; and
WHEREAS, the Gateway Cities Council of Governments, representing the neighboring
cities of Southeast Los Angeles County, is initiating predeployment planning of the Orange
Line, and the concept involves an advanced Maglev technology transit system, along the
Pacific Electric Corridor, connecting downtown Los Angeles to Orange County; and
WHEREAS, the general concept of the Orange Line predeployment planning study is
consistent with the goals and objectives of the City of Cypress as they relate to promoting and
improving transportation and economic development in the City of Cypress.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Cypress does
support the general concept of the Orange Line predeployment planning study and
encourages the coordination of the West Orange County Project Definition Study and the
Orange Line predeployment planning study so that findings of both studies can lead to
deployment of the transportation improvements that best serve economic and quality of life
goals of the City of Cypress.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress, at a
regular meeting held on the 10th day of September, 2001.
