Resolution No. 49043'73 RESOLUTION NO. 4904 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS, COMMENDING MR. NICK EIGHMY ON BEING SELECTED AS THE 1998 CYPRESS COLLEGE AMERICANA AWARD "CITIZEN OF THE YEAR" RECIPIENT FROM THE CITY OF CYPRESS WHEREAS, Nick Eighmy has been actively involved in the community for many years, and has been selected by the Cypress College Foundation as the 1998 Americana Award "Citizen of the Year" recipient from the City of Cypress; and WHEREAS, Nick's involvement in youth- oriented programs began more than ten years ago when his daughter, Jennifer, participated in the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) , which resulted in Nick serving on the AYSO Board for the past 15 years; and WHEREAS, Nick also began supporting the performing arts program at Cypress High School when his daughter, Nicole, showed an interest in choir and drama, by volunteering to print tickets, flyers and programs for these activities; and WHEREAS, Nick, in 1991, became involved with the Cypress High School's Grad Nite event, and in 1995, chaired the first Grad Nite auction, successfully raising funds to assist in providing a safe graduation night activity; and WHEREAS, Nick joined the Cypress High School Athletic Boosters in 1993, and served as its President in 1994 and 1995; and actively supported the bingo program which provides funding for the athletic program, band, and the Cypress Police Department's D.A.R.E. program; and WHEREAS, Nick assisted in organizing the Cinco de Mayo celebration, which has become an annual event in the community, to raise funds for the Athletic Boosters and other sports and youth organizations; and WHEREAS, Nick has also worked with the Cypress Civic Theatre Guild, the Hotline of Southern California, the Cypress Chamber of Commerce, and currently serves as President of the Cypress Boys and Girls Club; and WHEREAS, Nick, in recognition of his commitment to the youth of the community, has received the Friends of Education Award from the Anaheim Union High School District and the Honorary Service Award from the Cypress High School PTSA; and WHEREAS, Nick also was the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award in 1995 from the Cypress Recreation and Community Services Commission, and in 1997 was named the Man of the Year by the Cypress Chamber of Commerce; and WHEREAS, the Cypress City Council is proud to recognize a citizen of Nick's caliber for his many contributions to the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Cypress does hereby commend and extends sincere CONGRATULATIONS TO MR. NICK EIGHMY for being selected as the 1998 CYPRESS COLLEGE AMERICANA AWARD "CITIZEN OF THE YEAR" RECIPIENT FROM THE CITY OF CYPRESS.
