ORDINANCE NO.- 419
AN URGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CYPRESS AMENDING SECTION 23 -17 OF CHAPTER 23 OF THE
CYPRESS CITY CODE, RELATING TO ROOFLINES AND ROOF SIGNS.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CYPRESS HEREBY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: Section 23 -17 of Chapter 23 of the Cypress City Code hereby is
amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 23 -17. Extension Over Roofline.,
(a) Signs extended over 30 feet in height are prohibited.
(b) No sign attached to a building shall extend above the parapet or eaves
line of such building.
(c) Roof signs are prohibited."
SECTION 2: This Ordinance is an Urgency Ordinance necessary to protect
the public safety, health and welfare. The City Council of the City of Cypress
hereby finds and declares that the facts constituting such urgency are as follows:
1. The City of Cypress Planning Department is considering and studying, and
the City of Cypress Planning Commission intends to study within a reasonable
time, a contemplated proposal to amend Chapter 23 of the Cypress City Code
with respect to the construction and maintenance of signs within the City of
Cypress, with respect to limitations on the height and placement of signs
attached to buildings in the same manner as hereinabove set forth;
2. The uses presently allowed by said Chapter 23 are in conflict with such
proposal, and it is necessary to prohibit the establishment of such signs on
an interim basis to protect the public safety, health and welfare.
SECTION 3: This Ordinance shall take effect immediately and shall be
effective for a period of 90 days after adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cypress at a regular
meeting held on the 10th day of Novetber, 1969.
